Great update, love to see progress please keep them coming. Any progress on the wing boxes?
Great to see some progress, excellent work. Is the green colour final? Looks dark for interior green but maybe just the photo. Any progress on the centre section?
Good to hear the Messenger is making progress.
What’s the long term aim for the hanger that is currently being repaired? Will all the Aeroplane Collection airframes ultimately end up together at Hooton, even the ones currently at MOSI?
Delighted to hear there is no duplication of effort as I’m in awe of the work being undertaken to create the front end of a Stirling and look forward to seeing every update. Can’t wait to see frames being erected!
What happened to the ‘Stirling wing’ at Orfordness, the story suddenly went quiet possibly for good reason?
I’d love to visit but don’t find myself over that side of the country very often, maybe soon..
Keep up the good work.
No it is, although it would be great if both groups would unite and rebuild a full Whitley airframe. Yes yes I know.
Cheers
Cees
Shame that two groups are trying to do the same, especially when parts are so rare. Haven’t heard anything about the Whitley Project lately , I assume it is still going on?
There is no sense in two projects, almost as silly as two projects creating the front end of a Stirling; time to agree that one project creates the middle Section to join onto the Stirling Projects front end. After all these projects are about filling gaps as a lasting memorial to those who flew and died in them rather than personnel who, isn’t it?
Never realised you had so much Whitley, is this the same Whitley project that Eliot Smock is involved in?
Thanks for sharing those Aeronut, looks good. Was there a Bristol Babe on show? Like Sabrejet I’m interested in the Bollingbroke, can you get access to the restoration hanger?
Great start can only get better, a Britannia on that tarmac would be good!
Great news, look forward to seeing it at Filton.
The article in the last Aeroplane suggested it would arrive just before Christmas.
A complete Brigand would be an exciting and unique project, unfortunately to the best of my knowledge the only place there are some wings is Malaysia, maybe swop them for a common type like a Spitfire? (Only joking!)
I will visit the museum when it opens and hope it’s a good start but it will be pretty thin when it comes to complete aircraft exhibits. Hopefully it will grow as the Freighter arrives, the Bollingbroke is completed etc. I suspect most users of this forum will find the restoration work more interesting than the actual formal museum.
I would like to know the museums long term aims and collecting policy if anyone wants to share such information.
And of course a Bristol Freighter in due course. There was an article in Aeroplane showing it dismantled in New Zealand ready for shipping, I believe it should be here before Christmas.
Now what else could realistically be added?
-lots of Beaufort bits still unrestored
-Britannia
-not much chance of a Bulldog unless it’s repro
-maybe the Blenheim in the Severn Estuary will pop up out of the mud again soon….
-Type 118 on loan?
etc
Will do but don’t hold your breathe!
Here’s my last vac, HP Sparrow.
Thanks Duggy, that’s a good clear shot. Definitely observers window, one the other side too. The way light is coming through it suggests it has a window in the bottom face too so the observer can look down.
Also interesting that your photo shows fuel ejection pipes at the rear of the nacelles but photos earlier in the topic do not!
These are excellent thanks. Also had a look at other Botha images on the site there are some really good ones of the turret.
Thanks TT, I’ve seen the Flight Archive article and there’s some excellent interior and detail shots
Thanks TT I have that aeroplane issue and its the best source of info available; I’ve scoured the photos looking for conclusive proof of porthole numbers and came to exactly the same conclusion as you, 5 on the port side 4 on s’board because the door is in the way of one. I think that’s the way I will go.
