There are no second thoughts on MMRCA choice: DRDO chief

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief V K Saraswat who took a sortie in the Swedish Saab Gripen fighter aircraft last month made it clear that his sortie had nothing to do with the Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) deal. Saraswat was in the city to inaugurate a National Conference on Condition Monitoring at the Research and Development Establishment, Engineers (R&DE). “There are no second thoughts on the MMRCA choice. My sortie in Saab Gripen has no relationship with MMRCA. My visit to the facility was in relation with Foliage Penetration Radar,” he said. Gripen was one of the contenders for the Indian Air Force’s high profile 126 MMRCA program, which now stands finalised with French Dassault Rafale.

    Behind the Scenes at Eurosatory

The Dassault stand [..at Eurosatory] is showing a model of Franco-British cooperation: the Telemos, based on a BAE-designed and -flown Mantis, but the model shows for the first time three payloads on the underside of the unmanned air vehicle (UAV).

Obviously , you have no idea of the destruction power of a AASM , even the 125 version .
3 direct hits like that :

    and everything is out .

Actually I think all that is needed is a direct hit on the radar or command center and the sam is useless. I believe such hits were conducted during the Libyan conflict.

India’s Richest Seek New Fortunes in Defense Contracts

Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), the Mumbai-based operator of the world’s biggest refinery complex, signed an agreement this year with Dassault Aviation SA (AM) to explore defense projects. India is negotiating with Dassault, based in Paris, to buy 126 Rafale warplanes in the world’s biggest fighter-jet purchase in 15 years, estimated to cost at least $11 billion.

Tushar Pania, a Reliance spokesman, declined to comment. Ambani, Reliance’s chairman, is the world’s 23rd richest person, with a $20.4 billion net worth as of June 6, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Mathieu Durand, a spokesperson at Dassault, also declined to comment.

Algeria: Bouteflika, Air Force and Rafale

Posted on: Tue, Jun 12, 2012

The Algerian Air Force (AAF) is said to be discussing with Algerian President Abdulaziz Bouteflika the possibility of buying the Dassault Rafale aircraft. The following 374-word report sheds light on the subject and tells what about the discussions in question and what about the reaction of President Bouteflika. It also tells what about the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Now that’s a big surprise! If anybody has access to the article I would like to know more.

Boeing expects winner to be picked in Brazilian FX-2 competition this year

Boeing expects Brazil to pick a winner for its FX-2 fighter competition later this year, a top company official says.

“The original intention was to make a decision in the June timeframe,” says Chris Chadwick, president of Boeing’s military aircraft division. “We believe that as with all international sales, those dates tend to fluctuate.”

But that being said, Chadwick says there are indications that the contest will not be significantly delayed.

“We are getting a lot of very positive vibes in terms of a decision sooner rather than later,” Chadwick says. He adds that there are good indications that Brazil will decide on a winner this year.

Other sources confirms the decision might be very soon but gives the Rafale the odds.

Offsets proposed for fertiliser sector (lol :D)

“Thus, such offsets will primarily aim at securing access of Indian companies to basic raw material as well as price advantage compared to its competitors”, explained an official source.

They said, currently the national policy of offsets is applicable primarily for the defence sector but primarily for import of items and not acquisition. Under such arrangement, defence hardware acquisitions above Rs 300 crore require the foreign supplier to ‘offset’ at least 30 per cent of the contract value by sourcing sub-assemblies, components and services from India, as is the case with the recent $10.6-billion jet fighter deal with Dassault Rafale.

They explained India procures a lot of defence items from Belarus and Russia and such a policy may help the fertiliser companies to procure assets or leases in fertiliser resources in those countries. Further the ministry has proposed a model for acquisition of raw material assets abroad by first creating goodwill by building infrastructure needs of a country rich in fertiliser resources and then acquiring the raw material resources.

    The curious Rafale deal

The UK used aid funds and France Carla… No wonder Rafale won!!:diablo:

    I really loved that part!

Collateral evidence has emerged, through research by Subramanian Swamy and our searches on Google and other internet sites, that blood relations and close friendships at the top political level probably tilted the scales in favour of the Rafale. There is as yet no evidence that Dassault paid a huge bribe to India’s first family, though the possibility cannot be ruled out, given the current milieu in India.

Indian aircraft carrier enters sea trials as navy eyes Rafale

Russia has commenced sea trials involving the Indian navy’s refurbished aircraft carrier the INS Vikramaditya, as sources suggest the service could consider a future acquisition of the Dassault Rafale.

Originally built for Russia as the Admiral Gorshkov, with a maximum displacement of 43,500t, the refitted and modernised vessel left Severodvinsk in the north of the country on 8 June for open-sea trials, preceeding its delivery to India in December. Once operational, the Vikramaditya will be capable of carrying 30 to 34 aircraft, including RSK MiG-29K deck-based fighters.

Sources say the Indian navy is considering the carrier-capable Rafale M as a possible acquisition, with a potential cost benefit to come from the air force’s pending deal for 126 of the type to meet its medium multi-role combat aircraft requirement.

Already operational with the French navy and similar in size to the MiG-29K, the Rafale M could potentially be operated from India’s future ski-jump-equipped domestic aircraft carriers and offer a greater operational capability than current Russian aircraft and India’s Aeronautical Development Agency Tejas naval fighter.

India’s interest in new naval fighters stems partly from China’s ongoing test work with the aircraft carrier Shi Lang, which will be capable of deploying locally-built versions of the Sukhoi Su-30.

BAE cutting price to win 126 fighters deal?

LONDON: Britain’s BAE Systems is reported to be preparing a fresh bid which may include cutting down the prices for the world’s biggest fighter jet order despite India’s rejection of its Eurofighter Typhoon in favour of France’s Dassault Rafale.

India chose the French fighter in January in a deal worth nearly £13 billion for 126 aircraft. India’s decision had disappointed many in Britain, including Prime Minister David Cameron.

In a report without mentioning the source of information, The Mail on Sunday said: “BAE believes that when India scrutinises the Rafale and assesses the French submission, it will realize the Eurofighter is a superior aircraft that will be cheaper overall”.

“If the Indians are willing to look again at the Eurofighter and there are indications that is happening, a revised bid will be ready for them,” it added.

“BAE has even come up with designs for a marine version of the Eurofighter in case the Indians want to fly it from aircraft carriers,” the report said.

The report said that Ian King, BAE chief executive, had not ruled out reducing the price of the Typhoon. “The Eurofighter, which is built in partnership with the German and Spanish arms of defence giant EADS and Italy’s Finmeccanica, lost out because it was about 3.5 million pounds a plane more expensive than the Rafale”, the report said.

“And the French, according to the Indians, offered better after-deals, including technology upgrades and the latest weaponry,” it added. There were earlier suggestions that Britain’s aid to India was partly designed to help win the major contract, which has since been denied.
