Hi cornvii, you are right ,there is a square bar involved. Cant remember if pedal is bolted to a tube and square bar slides inside.

Hi all, just for the record the two people responsible for putting P9374 & N3200 fuselages together at Airframe Assemblies were Steve Phillips & Pete Beltcher. I think we did a fantastic job and raised the bench mark for restorations. Massive thanks to HFL for continuing the exceptionally high standard. Also DCW fantastic photo’s as always.

Yes, Mackerel – a film about its re-creation with some hands-on from Guy Martin who is presenting.

Until I see the rough cuts at end of April/May I am not sure to what extent there is reference to other partners like Airframe Assemblies or Retro-Track-And-Air, and I am bound by contract, anyway, not to divulge anything pre TX.

Should be intresting with Guy Martin presenting. Would like to think other partners would get a mention, but as yet no filming been done at AA.

Worth mentioning that a documentary film about the aircraft is in production with Guy Martin presenting. It will go to edit immediately after 17 April.

Is this a film about its restoration Andy ?

Things have progressed further than looking at the New Zealand CAA Venture Aviation initiative. The HAA have proposed a self administered framework similar to the Australian system, and on the face of it, it is being taken seriously by the CAA and it all seems very encouraging.

    Regards,

    Rich

HI all, I’m pretty sure that all intrested parties had a meeting with the CAA last week at Duxford. Dont know the outcome though.

Just wondering when they changed from snap head rivets to full countersunk rivets.Just about to start skinning our MkV and need to do a stock take :very_drunk:

Hi QldSpitty, The riveting pattern on a MKV is pretty much the same as a MKI. The horizontal intercostals from Fr11 to Fr19 are dimpled for csk rivets. Down the frames they are mush head rivets- SP86- and also along the spine. THe horizontal & vertical skin overlaps are mush head also. The fwd skins from Fr5 to FR11 are all csk rivets except for below the fillet fairing line where they are snap head rivs. The rivets through Fr11 & skin are mush head above fillet fairing line and snap head below. The lower skins where they rivet to the lower aft longerons are 1/8″ dia mush heads aft of the fillet fairing blister and fwd of blister are 1/8″ snap heads. The rivets in the belly skin are cut csk in the bottom between the fillet fairings and any rivets under the fillets are all snap heads. Hope this gets you started Ross.

Hi Jag248, I guess you might have to supply your own tubing & i’m not sure what sort of quantity ! not a lot of help really !! I think at Airframe assemblies we may have used both Hawkers & aerovintage for tube squaring.

Hi all, that shot of TD248 & RN201 together is just fantastic. Wasnt sure if silver suited high back spits but this looks good.

Fantastic turn round on this one Mo. Another Airframe Assemblies Fuselage takes to the sky. Colour really suits low back spits. Great photo’s Brian & David.

Yes you are probably right Bruce about the riveting. 1/8″ rivets on a half inch pitch would probably stretch the material so curving it

Not an easy thing to make – remember to put the curve in!

Hi Bruce you are right about the curve but I can see no reason for it. I have looked along original canopy rails and they do appeared curved, but the diamentions from C/L of a/c to the knuckel point is a constant 11″ along its length !! equalling total width of 22″. So they should be parellel !!

Hi all, I’ve just completed the rebuild of a Seafire FR5 at Airframe assemblies. See our facebook page for photo’s. I believe the serial no is SR 462. It is going to the USA, Ozark hangar I think.
