In the US, they have to use a predetermined mix of young and old…and probably some lightly disabled…but nothing as severe as what I referred to.
When I was in high school (grammar school), I was speaking with our headmaster, who’d just come from a similar position the Seattle area. To raise money for school activities, the school student body volunteered to provide “passengers” for Boeing’s test for the 747. Students recruited parents, siblings, grandparents and friends to get the proper mix. I believe the tests have to be done in various conditions…like a dark hangar.
Thanks.
When manufacturers do those tests/demonstrations of how quickly you can supposedly evacuate an airliner, do they still use fit, young college students in tracksuits who have all been briefed exactly what to do?
Claiming that guns are just “tools” is merely playing with words; a bit like saying “Lawnmowers don’t cut grass, people do” By the same logic, I guess people would have no problem letting small kids have knives, or the mentally ill have poison, because those things are just “tools” too, and you shouldn’t restrict them just because they might be misused.
“Crying with Laughter” the autobiography of Bob Monkhouse. Bit of on odd one for me, because I didn’t really like him as an entertainer. Thought some of his stuff was rather clever and he was undoubtedly a master of his craft, but the style was always a bit too slick for my taste. But after seeing a documentary on telly about him recently I realised there was much more to him than I ever knew. Beautifully written book, witty, insightful, and shockingly candid and frank at times.

Turkish Airlines DC-10, 1974?
Yes, I wonder how “free” all those people felt as they ran for their lives because, once again, someone decided the gun was the answer.
If this is RpR’s much-vaunted “Freedom” I’d want no part of it whatsoever.

And after reading the thread title, here was me thinking knickers :p
That would be an ecumenical matter.
I would rather have them have the freedom to be stupid than corralled and controlled like cattle.
Freedom at any price? Society can not function that way.
The newspaper account that I read said that hundreds maybe thousands were effectively disenfranchised because polling cards had been lost – without explaining the loss – and then some were found – conveniently, after 10.0pm and the doors had closed.
I don’t think you need polling cards to vote. We didn’t get ours for the local elections, but still voted.
If only the child’s one year old brother had been “open carrying” then he might have been deterred from doing it, or at least the one year old could have shot his brother before he shot their mother. It’s obvious that America needs more guns around to stop this sort of thing happening.

Why do some people want to have a bash at Billy Bishop?
Don’t “Bash the Bishop” eh? :highly_amused: But seriously, I think nearly all of us here grew up seeing him as a real hero and want to believe it all, but there are also unanswered questions. Why was the VC awarded for a wholly uncorroborated action, in direct contravention of the rules; was it to boost morale in the RFC and honour the incredible contribution being made by Canada? Even if he could have removed his Lewis gun in flight, would he have deliberately chosen to literally throw away his only means of defending himself? Why were the bullet holes in such a small area if they were fired at a distance?
