Not everyone’s cup of tea, but in an age of almost instant and meaningless “celebrity” he was a genuine one-off with an amazing life story. RIP.
[QUOTE=J I’m sure the Helldiver was no worse than many…and it did have a good (and long, foreign variants were used until the 60s) militrary career again, unlike many other aircraft.[/QUOTE]
Never knew that. 😮 Who with; French, Thais?
Hey, thanks for that Bruce. Good stuff. 😎
Thanks Tony. Might give it a whirl anyway.
Funnily enough I sketched up an RCN Lysander with floats,
Keeping it to yourself then, Mr Tweed? Humph… 🙁
Captain Kirk-
Captain Kirk-
Heck, I would have loved to have seen a DH86. Beautiful looking aircraft IMHO.
Oh yes, still got it Moggy, like the indestructible socks.

If ever I found myself in that situation I’d ask for one of those “everlasting” gobstoppers I had as a kid.

Mondariz is a thoughtful and constructive contributor, and I think his ‘gut -reaction’ response was maybe coloured by the shock which many people are feeling.
Well said, that man. It’s a shock to all of us when something we love suddenly turns into disaster like this, and in those first emotional moments it’s all too easy to either get hold of the wrong end of the stick about something and/or say something we wouldn’t say at more normal times. I’m sure the truth will emerge about the woman, and if indeed she was after some grisly souvenir I am sure she will live to regret it. Has anyone considered though that in her shocked state she might have been trying to return it to help the investigation?
Heck, this has been a bad year. 🙁
if it’s unmanned, how it can be kamikaze?
I think for kamikaze aircraft you need a pilot.
Yes, “Unmanned Suicide” is an oxymoron, surely?
