I have a 1/72 Lancaster in BBMF lanc markings which is a Hybrid of an Airfix Lanc with the paddle props of a Matchbox kit for authenticity which I am quite proud of. Also a Mk XIV Spitfire converted to PR Mk XIX 1/72

Ashley although I agree that women do fart you havent met the future Mrs topgun, she farts and belches louder and better than any man I know.
preserving a Nimrod
I agree that there should be a Nimrod airframe preserved and it may be that one may got to a museum as the order for MR 4 has been cut by 2 so the remaining MR 2s may be preserved but I doubt it. There was a Nimrod MR1 prototype in the now demolished 13 Hangar at BAe systems at Warton which would have been ideal for preservation but was sold to the highest bidder for scrap and subsequently chopped in two and carted off on the back of two low loaders. I think only the cockpit was saved as a mock up for the MR 4.
I believe they have got the wings to fit but they are having problems with the engines ( they are too heavy and making the wings bend!)
If swimming is such good excercise, why are whales so fat?
If a tortoise loses its shell is it naked or homeless?
The kind soul who decided not to scrap PA474 and use her for research trials at cranfield then we might not have any airworthy lancs in the world until recently
Firstly before I get pounced upon and mauled to death by the ‘Do Not Touch’ birgade I will hold my hand up now and I admit I am a Toucher. As many others have stated in this forum I think old aeroplanes in museums are not just hulks of metal but living things with parts of the souls of the people who designed them, flew them, fought and sometimes died in them. For me touching an aeroplane connects with those people and gives me the chance to say thank you for making the sacrifice they made for me and to make it all the more real for me rather than just pages in a book or pictures on film which a lot of the time just sensationalise the ultimate act of sacrifice that is being made. I do feel though that some museums are, to me, like zoos where the exhibits are not shown in their home environment properly enough and just say ‘this is a spitfire’, ‘this is a Messerschmitt or Heinkel’ – blah blah blah
I went to Hendon during the summer and was very impressed with some of the displays they had there. I thought the blitz experience was very good as it involved the visitor and show what is was like to live in the bllitz, The trench experience at the IWM in london was also moving for me. What I would like to see is a display on those lines (maybe a la carrier at Yeovilton) experiencing life on a Battle of Britain airfield, at readiness maybe using film and veterans recollections to bring home the feelings of those who mabye an hour later could be dead or even experiencing life on a typical bombing mission at night in the cold on your own at 20-odd thousand feet getting shot at
Hear hear lancman, I was at hendon during the summer with some Air Cadets and she did look like she could do with some more TLC and a coat of paint. Come on hendon ‘Your Lanc needs you’
Nice pics septic, any idea what that a/c is in the back ground? looks like a civvy Bell 47.
If your interested the Lanc could do with a touch up!!!! inside
If you need any more for the Lanc, count me in!!! and I’m sure lancman can find a brush from somewhere. I would love to get inside the old lass again! Anything to make her look nothing but the best!
PS853’s engine had the gearbox modified to lose the contra-rotating prop mech., reshaping of the supercharger and camshaft cover, and deletion of the Shacks FS gear and the water injection system isn’t used plus the leading edge tanks are inop and the pressurisation system is no longer fitted
warbirduk – PS853 has been re-engined with a Griffon 58 from a Shackleton whilst she was with the BBMF in 1984
P7350 would have to be my bet she still has the repaired bullet holes on th wings for action in th battle of britain
what a load of dogs pooh
EN830 I couldnt have put it better myself! just a collection of the worst bits from every POW film on the planet! The main character looke like he’d just walked out of the RAF kitting store and spilled ketchup down his front! They should give it the same treatment as the escapee and burn it!
XL391
I pass XL391 on my way to work every morning and is probably in a worse state since you last saw her, the crew hatch is constantly open so the local wildlife are nesting etc. in her innards, I think the best thing now for her is the scrapmans axe to put her out of her misery
XL391
yes it is a sorry sight to see the old girl rot away like that I hope some body buys her soon before she falls apart
these photos are award winning “Gareth for the turner prize!”
