The stuntman was Bud Ekins a good friend of McQueens. The rider who was knocked of his bike by hitting the wire was Steve Mcqueen so in essence he nicked the bike off himself and was then chasing himself as he also played a German motorcyclist in pursuit. Ekins later doubled for McQueen in Bullitt and did most of the riding in the TV series CHiPs according to IMDb

    BSG

That is easily the best sci fi series there is

    EVER

Good series. but that accolade for me has to be Babylon 5. Great story Well acted too

I’m a big fan of Babylon 5. For me the Earth Alliance Starfury fighter and the Earth Alliance Omega class destroyer (best known for the EAS Agamemnon) just look most convincing as space craft.

edited to add: do semi-organic crafts count? The Shadow battle crab are seriously cool. In Top Gear terms they would go in the DB9 freezer! 😉

Agreed. I would also go for the White Star Fleet too

Updates from the Cape Run site:

    20 Oct 2010 6:25 pm
Regrettably, while we’ve been anxiously waiting for word from Taff he’s been subjected to all manner of drama and as a consequence has opted to divert to Windhoek, approximately 700 miles north of Cape Town in Namibia, with full comms and cockpit instrument failure. Details are sketchy at the moment but we believe that the west coast CB’s were dramatically oppressive and Taff finished up with a deluge of water in the cockpit and no instrumentation, including ASI or comms. In addition there seems to have been a fuel related problem which manifested itself when Taff swapped tanks, we have no further information at the moment but I gather that the decision has been taken to hangar the aircraft and reassess the situation in the morning.

    21 Oct 2010 1:00 pm
Given the nature of yesterdays events it would be foolhardy to continue with the flight until we’ve been able to inspect the aircraft in greater detail. Obviously that takes time and we can’t expect the support teams to remain on station indefinitely so I would suggest that, for now at least, the Cape Run is postponed. I’m sure we’ll publish more details in the days ahead but in the meantime I’d like to thank everyone for their support and I’m sorry we couldn’t deliver better news.

Shame about the tech issues but at least he was able to divert an land safely. It could have been worse if he had been over the mid Sahara and had engine failure or worse.

A B-29 appears in Back to the Future – I kid you not…

Lol no one fancies driving it then? :p

    There may be one person

Some say that he is convinced that the clouds are following him and that he thinks that Star Wars is a documentary.

All we know is that he is called The Stig

But if he aint available I’ve been known to have a screw loose on the racetrack (or so I’ve been told!) so I’d give it a go:diablo:

I remember watching a BoB documentary a few years ago and it was stated (IIRC) by Stephen Bungay or John Sweetman that at study had been made on losses v production/replacement against the with reference to the possible destruction of the RAF and it was found that the Germans would never have been able to destroy the RAF as production of aircraft and replacements were already starting to overtake losses by the time the Luftwaffe turned on London.

This , coupled with the fast repair of the airfields and RADAR operational, the Luftwaffe would never be able to destroy the RAF. I stand to to be corrected though.

Just watched this on iplayer and whilst a very good programme, certainly on a par with David Jasons Battle of Britain , it did feel a little rushed and didnt really bring anything new either. But well put together all the same.

    From Wiki

Mitchell’s exact illness is not mentioned. He had rectal cancer and had a colostomy in 1933. However the film gave many people the impression that he contracted tuberculosis as a consequence of an immune system weakened by overwork.

Mitchell did not work himself to death on the Spitfire. He did, however, continue to work despite the pain of his illness, tweaking and perfecting the Spitfire design up until his death. Designer Joe Smith had taken over the primary design work by the time of the first flight of the Spitfire prototype.

Mitchell did not visit Germany and so never met Willy Messerschmitt. The film shows that the trip convinced him to design the Spitfire.

Geoffrey Crisp is a fictional character based on an amalgam of Vickers’s test pilots, Jeffrey Quill (also an RAF veteran) and “Mutt” Summers. Quill actually flies a Spitfire in the film, and had tested the Spitfire in battle, shooting down three aircraft while on temporary assignment to the RAF.

However, the film contains precious footage that would be otherwise be lost to posterity:

Film footage of the Supermarine S.4 in taking off from Southampton Water, and in flight, which is now available nowhere else. The film also includes footage of many real-life Battle of Britain fighter pilots in the opening and closing scenes. RAF fighter pilots such as Tony Bartley and Brian Kingcombe (with pipe) have cameo roles in the scenes at the dispersal, and are seen discussing their flights before take off and after landing with David Niven.

avoid vodafone like the plague , once used them and thier billing was unusual to say the least !!

i’m now on o2 and no grumbles !!

I am on Vodafone and so are my family and we have had no problems whatsoever with the service. Coverage and reliabilty have been excellent.

I have us O2 as well on contract and had been since they were Cellnet and I have had no grumbles with their service.

I have a couple of friends on Orange and they have had coverage issues.

Mrs TGR has used T-mobile and had a lot of problems with their customer service though
