I think it along with the B-29 turret have been removed to allow the various B-17 parts to be monuvered back in to AAM.

i thought the pilot could lower/raise the gear manually by winding a lever so they will go down if there is an issue with the landing gear lever/switch.

But to compensate this TFC do conduct hangar shuffles every so often to give them a mix around in the hangar and to fly them, especially now when they are coming out of their winter maintenance.
Has TFC’s Nimrod got it’s engine back in yet? not long now until it’s scheduled appearence at the Duxford May show.
