I’ll take the Typhoon because it does the job and I helped to pay for it. Those F22 shots are cracking can I get a bigger picture for my desktop? I have to say though that although it looks good from those angles it doesn’t look good from all angles like the F15 does.
For the the hard of thinking. Jacko is being ironic.
The GAU-12/U would be unlikely to fit in the British pods – they would have to be removed and replaced by the US ones. And then the appropriate mods would have to be made to the fire control software, and possibly the sights.
Then you get into issues of training, maintenance and supply…

Junk the Brit pods just buy the whole GAU12 system, pod n’ all.

They won’t.
Yup. They’ll need to lose a carrier from air attack before the government moves on that one. What is more likely is cannon reintegration and if they can’t get the old Adens to work properly they should use the GAU jobbies off the AV8Bs if there are any going STR in the USMC.

A-10 is 30mm…
Thats what I said didn’t I?

Also if Denmark DO go for the Gripen Dk they could perhaps opt for a joint procurement and order them all together with Norway’s Gripen Ns, thus bringing down the unit price still further. Yup, I am keeping my fingers crossed for the Gripen N myself.

Je suis venu. Moi scie et moi ne croyons pas mes yeux !
je suis venu, j’ai vu et j’en ai pas cru mes yeux!
thx Phil!
France is the european bigest voice about Whales massacres by norway, i doubt they would be nice, but i doubt about DiD statements or francophily , this after syrfing thier web site quotes!
Merci boucoup monsieur.
Cependant vous devriez noter cela mon respect élevé pour la Dassault Rafale est très bien documenté dessus ce forum.
(However you should know that my high regard for the Dassault Rafale is well documented on this forum.)
Thanks

The American in me wants the F-35 to win because of national pride, but I gotta say that part of me is pulling for the Gripen.
I think that is the coolest little jet fighter, and it offers quite a punch for a fairly reasonable price.
That version with extra pylons and dual-missile racks and such looks really spiffy, and I think if they will just put an F414 or EJ200 engine in the thing then you’ve got an incredible fighter which is even better than the already superb (IMHO) Gripen.
I second that. The Gripen deserves it.

Dassault current market for the rafale is small but it still exists.
So far, it has failed to get new markets… markets owns buy the USA (Korea, Singapore, Netherlands, Norway) or UK (Saudi Arabia) for decades. Dassault had NEVER sold a single plane to those countries in 50 years. So let’s wait for the Greek and the indian contests… 2 current Dassault costumers.
Don’t worry Kovy there are always people ready to write off projects like the Rafale. I just wonder what they’ll say when the Rafale gets its first export order, l which it will, soon. I’m still holding out hope that the Royal Navy will get the Rafale M instead of the F35. That’d be ironic. Its a good jet, as good as, if not better than the Typhoon. It WILL get orders.

It’s a bit larger slightly larger wings and the under carriage is rearranged so the wheels go up into the wings instead. The allocated space in the ‘belly’ will be used for internal fuel and 3 weapon pylons in total there. About twice the range of 39C, 25-40% more thrust depending on engine choice, Satcom, new radar, enhanced EW suite… And I mean, in the end it’s unlikely we will see Norway bomb Tehran anytime soon so a bit of CAS and Airdefense, Naval strike (this is an issue unresolved on JSF btw) is basically what I suppose is in a direct need.
The information from Swedish military HQ is a intention to finance a demonstrator to be built as part of their export support plan for Gripen.
Sheets from gripen.com docs:
Gripen DK is the same as N.
This pic is the real flirt with Norway as it carry 4 of the new Kongsberg (50% state-owned) NSM’s and loads of fuel for Naval patrol.
Thankyou. Now that is very interesting. What are the engine choices being considered?
Phil π
That has never been mentioned as a significant factor in the upcoming decision. In fact the deputy minister of defense said all jets meet the requirements for Norway and emphasise the need to secure the development of Norwegian defense industry in the long term.
Norway’s TV2 yesterday reported that the choice is mainly between JSF and Gripen N now as they had a interview with the minister when he flew the Gripen in Sweden this week. The parent companies to JSF/Gripen offer better industrial contracts than the competition at the same time as EADS is losing interest. Gripen offering not only 35% more money in industrial contracts compared to LM but also 100% shared ownership and transparency on the new N model. I wouldn’t say the EF is out of the game just yet but Gripen N is starting to make it to the #2 slot for sure.
What are the specs of the Gripen N chaps?
Phil π
I just think it’s funny that the French left the consortium because they wanted carrier capability and no-one else did, and now the British are forced to go to the Americans for planes for their new carriers!
It would have been much better if the other countries had listened to the French … we would now have France on the team to help share the costs and increase orders, less political bickering to slow down development, no competitor to the EF for export, and no need to buy the JSF.
No offence but France would only opt in if they had a massively disproportionate workshare-to-investment ratio. They knew the other partners would not be able to accept the terms that they (France) proposed. It is a shame though because I think it should have been one or the other, the Rafale and the Typhoon are duplicates of effort, time and expense.
For the record I’m glad we have Typhoon but I would not have been dissapointed with the Rafale either. In fact I kind of hope the Royal Navy drops the F35B in favour of the Rafale M but I can’t see it happening.
Phil π
The F-22 and F-35 are full blown Fifth gen. projects whereas the EF and rafale are 4.5 gen aircraft , there is a logic to support that the EF and Rafale should have IOC’d at a faster rate then the more complex 5th gen aircrafts which employed key technologies that were not a part of the fighter aircraft before it and were being pioneered in fightrer aircraft.
Oh if only we had a little of that good old Yankee spirit……sigh…… π
Phil π
Whoops! Sorry. Didn’t see this one.
