Kiwis who want to be nuclear physicists (Like Lord Rutherford) have been going overseas for years… why not fighter pilots too?
I have no problem with it. I just feel for the ones who would prefer to have the oportunity yet be able to stay in their own country if thats what they want to do. However I do understand that personal feelings shouldn’t come into it, if a combat wing is holding back the economy and it really isn’t neccesary anyway.
All I am saying is I hope the combat wing won’t be required, if by any chance somebody does attack New Zealand I would hope that Britain would be the first on the scene but I worry that we won’t get there in time. 🙁
Phil, i was talking about foreign client, more upgraded stuff look like more sellable!
Sorry mate.:)
Seahawk that is good news indeed. There you go. You got us all worried over nothing, now all we have to do is quiver and quake about what the British will do. My bet is 180 aircraft also, unless they can find a leaser for the remaining 52.
Oh come on I bet its mother loves it. 😀 I still reckon that as a ‘STOVL’ design it was ‘technically’ better than the X35 but I also think that was why it was rejected, it had an eye first and foremost on the STOVL project. Not pretty though is it? :p
Looks like I’m a wannabe, or at best a layman. Hang on, perhaps I should read the questions. 😀
Yes I was going to say that BAe won’t be in the sh!t over this they will be building the wings, as one poster said they have a 20% stake in Airbus and no, BAe is not (as yet) a part of EADS.
To contribute money to the Australian Airforce would be a waste of money. We would be better to do what we are doing now to improve our navy and army so that we could support Australia with ground and sea forces. Those NZers wanting to be pilots went to Britain during WWII and they can go to Britain now or Australia… I am sure they could use the pilots… we had and have some very professional people. We could do with some new Helos for our army and some new transport aircraft too… hopefully something will happen there.
Well they are always welcome, in fact I don’t think an RAF squadron is complete without a New Zealander, but what about those who want to stay at home? Fair enough if it can’t be afforded it can’t be afforded but it seems like a hell of a risk to me no matter how far away NZ is from the rest of the world.
The Su-27 was escorting the Su-24MR which took the pictures the Russians e-mailed to the carrier’s skipper
There you go; it was both. 🙂
………..and here is one with Skyflash medium range, semi active radar guided missiles (could be Sparrows I suppose.) No reason to suppose it can’t be rigged for AMRAAM as well.
………..and another
Still looking up the 159 sorry I don’t have a lot of time to do it, the wife was due our first baby last Friday and I’ve just started a new job. Here are some piccies of the Hawk 200 to tide you over.
ok, point out the holes…NOW!
Not a lot of holes I can find with any real knowledge of what I am talking about but arn’t the Kiwi’s scrapping the Macchis as well? 🙂
Actually two of the PAF squadron 8 Mirage VPA2s did that too during an exercise with the Nimitz (or was it Kitty Hawk?).
Arthur you beat me to it with this one. Yes there was a stink about it a while back when the Russians did it, I think with an Su24 but some reports say it was an Su27. 🙂
Gee, I looked at the title of this thread and I thought it was about the Typhoon and the Rafale not the F-22 so I simply made the comment that there are both not in service yet and that the build rate is so slow that they are hardly a factor. If you want to make the same observation about the F-22, then fine
So if it is ‘fine’ to make the same observation about the F22 why are you criticising me for doing just that? I have never once said that another country is more or less capable of building a good aircraft than anybody else yet all I hear from Americans, Chinese, New Zealanders 😀 Russians…………….no sorry I go too far.
I want it on the record that I do not think we in Britain or the rest of Europe can build a plane any better or worse than anybody else but who are you or anybody else to criticise us for so much as building one at all? Some of the aspersions, accusations and criticisms I hear on this forum are nothing short of fractious biggotry (please excuse my spelling), nationalistic fervour and down right petty, childish boasting. “My plane is better than your plane”. Complete bo**cks! Are you telling me that because I am British or gods forbid European that I am somehow inferior?
No. Lets not go there again. Sorry. 🙂
a thing is sure, in upgrading the EF engines and putting a AESA, the typhoon would be more sexy, even if it’s primary mission is an interceptor one, that’s building countries ares looking as disadvantage today!
Sexy? No mate there is one thing you can’t ever say about a Typhoon and that is that it is sexy. When I first saw it I thought it was ‘one ugly muther’ but I suppose its not meant to look nice.
The only thing with that statement is that the Brits could (and probably still can) build nice looking aircraft that do the job well regardless. The Hawker Hunter, the Spitfire (of course) and the Vulcan. Now it seems that the French can build the Rafale which is as sexy as sin, the Yanks can build the F16 (you have to admit it is gorgeous) and the Russians can build the Flanker. What do we come up with.
Well I suppose it is growing on me and it isn’t completely British so maybe I’m being a bit harsh. In fact when it is tooled up it looks purposeful. Not pretty but workman-like which I don’t mind at all.
The Finns flew the Hurricane as well.
Yes, but it’s not in service and it’s avionics capabilities aren’t known enough to be modelled faithfully. You could make something up, but it’d be pretty lame
Gaz you’ve got to admit this is a good point why not wait until the SU39 can be accurately modelled? I’d bet it will be available in the no too distant future.
Geg you old bugger! How are you? Nice piccies and where the hell did you get the AMX and the Sea Harrier from for Strike Fighters? I’m jealous now.
Matt I don’t know what your budget is but you can get the Saitek X45 throttle and stick for about £80 from most shops including PC World (spit)
Geg see you on Csim. 🙂
