Conjecture always arises after such events.
The aircraft took off at 18.03 and landed wheels up at 20.00 (1hr 57m airborne) with the engine off and with minimal damage. The pilot called Bremgarten at 18.45 to say he had an undercarriage problem and spent the next 1 hour and 15 minutes talking to Meier Motors chief pilot and attempting to release the jammed undercarriage lever.
Matthius, had you been there I’m sure you would have taken some stunning photographs of the fly bys with the left gear hanging low.
    Happy Landings

I have enjoyed the Ice Pilots series like so many people and had no idea as I’m sure none of us did about Arnies illness. We did see a small glimpse of his family life when his young teenage daughter beat cancer herself. Very sad abd cruel for her and his wife that the disese has come back to haunt them again.
A real character. Few pilots these days will ever get the oppportunity to fly so much, gain so many hours and have the knowledge and will to pass on their experiences.
    RIP Arnie

There has been twice in a month a BAe 146 going into Yeovilton. Any ideas who’s this might be ? presume a Uk one, but doesn’t look like a Royal flight.
We have also had an Apache doing circuits, and some Pumas as well at Henstridge.

I think this is a good idea. The ‘Historic Site’ we have is excellent, but arrows towards mostly military with is fine, but as many/most of us only get access to civil stuff, a dedicated site to historic airliner pictures own its own, would give people a good direction for historic civil. This I’m sure would encourage more people posting historic pictures from all parts of the globe, including old pictures from the UK airports.

    Great Shots

Excellent shots. The detail you have captured (rivets, creased skin on fuselarge’s and wings) is superb. I also notice how good the positioning is i.e. where you have stood and managed the different light conditions. I have been lucky enough to have some photos published in aviation magazines now and again, but these are very worthy of any publication. Well done and thank you for letting us all see your aviation year, it makes me want to improve and learn more.

    Living near Heathrow

I was brought 6 miles from Heathrow. Would catch the 237 bus and change at Feltham for the 285 to the centre. Could watch the planes from the waiting lounge at Terminal 1 all day if you wanted. Queens building had a chap who would give a commentary and tell you where the planes were going to in the summer. Dad used to drive me to Car Park 2 after tea for some spotting. What great aircraft they were. IL-62, Caravelles, CV-880 (Swissair)that made more smoke than everything else, etc.
When I lived at Sunbury we used to play football and cricket at the local rec. We were not old enough to have a watch in the early days, so when we needed the time in the summer, if the BOAC VC-10 went over us it was 6.30pm and the South African AW 707/747 meant we had to pedal home for tea at 7.00pm, they were that regular in those days. When we were older and allowed to stay out untill 8.00pm ! the Quantas 707/747 would go over at 7.55. A mad dash home was then made. If late we would say ‘not our fault Mum’ the plane was late ! Great days, and yes, that wooded fence was all there was between you and the planes, but I had no camera then, only bins.

    Barriers

You might right about those barriers. After all, if they were modern day, surely the ‘Ealth and Safety ‘ brigade would of had a bright yellow and orange notice with them too !!
