All fitted with that component from that batch. This is as good an example as any of the system working as it should and a reaffirmation of the complete priority given to flight safety in the vintage aviation world.

I believe buccaneers flew themselves off the catapult automatically with the pilot collecting the thing together after his backside has stopped trying to overtake his feet. Perhaps that is what is meant? Video of an S1 launch I have seen certainly shows the undercarriage remaining fixed until well ahead of the ship and away.

What a fantastic vid! Never seen carrier operations actually under fire before!

I had the same thing, looked up to see a jet moving stupidly slowly, looked like a plasticene canberra stretched in all directions. Took a while before a lamp went on in my head and I realised it was a U2.

Better than a barrier crash I suppose but what a real shame.

Every time I see the Hornet I wonder what we might have seen had the jet not arrived when it did.

“But looking at this engine, I think he had a catastrophic engine failure as well.”
Really? Bit of an end float problem?

No idea, but I do have a suggestion. Take a vernier and see if the bolt hexagon conforms to metric, American or BS size.

Well it’s a motor, apparently driving nothing but a flywheel, with bearings for a gimbal? Looks like a gyro to me. Could be marine too of course.

When it comes to the aesthetics of the ship, (and few things have such potential for elegance as a warship of any era) I think you need to ask sailors rather than aviators.

Got them all. No credit to me, it’s the voices in my head.

A little sympathetic conservation work and a suitable collecting box I think.

Shame you choose the Smer Walrus, Airfix are releasing one later this year.

They released their Sea Vixen as I was half way through the Dynavector vac form, and I heard about the new Walrus half way through this thing. Any requests for what you would like me to have them release next?

Tried Hannants. I cannot find a search term that brings up any RN Phantom decals, but their search facility is idiosyncratic at best. Found the kit on a US site and it offers a choice of two 111 sqn RAF schemes.

Maybe I should start a vac form Scimitar so as to have Airfix announce one.

From what I can see the RN kit is not available and box art on Hannants web site shows RAF scheme with zero further info that I can find. Suppose the sensible thing is to ring and ask them.
