I don’t think Lynx could carry those loads….
I have heard Puma somewhere (can’t remember and don’t believe)
I personally see Merlin but we will see
And if any of you have been naughty we’re going to send you a strongly worded letter!
Not to justify the drone attacks that is, but I doubt the UN investigation will come to anything.
I totally agree with you there, but then again the UK’s Drones only operate in Afgan so what is wrong with that, I mean they do their best over civilian casualties, remember the Harrier that redirected its Paveway to avoid casulties…
I would really like to see Lyneham come back, I mean I would personally leave Brize to the tanker fleet and move the Hercs, A400M and C-17’s. I mean it was the Southern diversionary airfield and multiple runways make it better for the task than Brize xD
What about the Battlefield version, what actual others are of the same sort of size, S-70 and NH90 are both a lot larger (and NH90 TTH has meant to have some major faults)
I had a book with a chapter about the beer carrying, I will see if I can dig it out. I think it was only for officers IRRC
I pity the Gripen pilots; a six-hour drag across the Atlantic with only soggy cheese sandwiches for lunch and a bag into which to pee.
Meanwhile the tanker crew are stretching-out and kicking-back.
Their fault for flying fast jets not heavy’s :D:diablo:
What I meant was that to the the Voyagers their “own” Typhoons would naturally serve as deterrence for Argentinian long range fighters where lone C-17s would never have such level of “natural” air defense. 🙂 So the realities of both types of flights are significantly different requiring a totally different planning logic.
Forgive me Nick for thinking that your above reasoning seems rather “simplistic”… Jet fuel for once will be a very rare commodity over there, ,how large are The Falkland’s air base reserves for fuel and how long would they last once the full complement of Typhoons starts flying heavily? After that this initial fuel will have to be replaced by ship from the UK How long would it take to do so? Wouldn’t these fuel tank farms be natural first day of war targets for hypothetical Argentinian Special Forces? Much more than the local fighter planes themselves…
Comments?
Hammer
Yes you would need more tankers but if we used that link as a rule of thumb you can do the maths.
I would have thought that the C-17’s would have been in the same packages as the Tiffies so that would be their protection.
I can assure you that we would have enough fuel down there for a fair period. I don’t think that any Arg special forces would be able to take the farms as they are probably within the defended perimeter and there are bound to be motion detectors etc.
I really don’t think that Argentina would be able to take the Falklands before we would be able to step up the defenses to a good enough standard….

2 – Fly as close to friendly soil as possible and eject
3 – Chile has always been the diversion, even if they had to fight there way past some hostile aircraft
4 – Of course, mroe redundancy and more fuel capacity
5 – Probably 4 Meteor/AMRAAM and 4 ASRAAM
6 – They would fight there way in, they would have to make it for any chance of success
7 – I don’t know what you mean, It would be used to transport ground forces as the Voyegers would support the Tiffies

When you think of it we would have 30 Aircraft down their after 24 hours, only 12 less than 1982, and with better multi-role capability
Also we would see the aircraft at full combat readiness on the way down, with a short stop at Ascension (Would we deploy a 2/3 aircraft flight to guard Ascension???).
By the time this hypothetical war will happen we will have T3 coming online and possibly CFT’s?

Does anyone else think that Army projects are under represented, like ASCOD SV/FRES????
I found this after browsing on another forum and thought I’d post it here for some of the narrow minded Argies
People had a go at me a year or two back for calling them Argies as it is a derogitory term, I no longer use it due to this reason as I accepted I was wrong. I have recently read “Storming the Falklands – My War and After” and in fact an awful lot of what you call “Argies” are ashamed of 1982….I would volunteer to go south should they be invaded again but that would be a decision from the Argentinan government (And I do think their PM doesn’t have a clue about anything but lets not get into that) not the people, they may want them to be Argentinan but they are British and want to be so, I do think this is starting to get a bit much on this forum, there are so many new Falklands threads and things….

The Argentinian’s screwed up their chances of getting anything with a British designed component in 1982. I can’t see them getting anything in British technology until they have a government that gives up their claim on the Falklands and signs a legally binding treaty with the UK giving up their claim.
But then again I would bet 1435 would take any Mirage aircraft and therefore would sleep fine if they got any 😉
It has to be STOL, not STOBAR, because LHDs cannot have catapults which are costly to install and operate.
The entire point of STOBAR is that it doesn’t need Cats
Short Take Off But Arrested Landing
The actual airgroup is 40 PLUS, so forty is a normal load but a surge capability is there. What needs to be remembered is that these aren’t fleet carriers like the USNs carriers, they are attack carriers (CVA)
