Done.
Anyone else?

Smashing pictures, Gareth. This must have happened before I got there, I was held up in traffic and missed the start. Did you take any pictures of the flight line?
Robert M.
I will be there on Sunday too. I am bringing my studid dwarf.

Yes there is. Bristol Bulldog IV BU-59 C/N 7810 is in the Halli Aircraft Museum, Finland according to my ancient copy of European Wrecks and Relics.
Somebody mentioned the Wallace in an earlier post, has it gone to Cosford yet? Does anyone know why it is going there – to be fitted with wings perhaps?!

I believe the Hart was displayed by Hawker Test Pilot Duncan Simpson, who test flew the “BAE” Hawk, amongst others. It’s a shame this one didn’t end up preserved in an airworthy state, am I correct in thinking that Aero Vintage are currently restoring one with a radial engine?
There are lots of photos of the Malta Hurricane fuselage before it was covered with fabric in 2001, from this page onward:

The story of its recovery from the sea is well doccumented elsewhere, but I did also hear that there were plans to rescue a Swordfish from a similar watery grave – does anyone know more?
The last I heard, the Hurricane was being rebuilt to taxiable status only.
I too was disapointed that the Camel has been strung up at Hendon, when it could have been part of the WW1 hangar display. I hope that in time the exhibits will be rotated. I am a huge fan of the RAF Museum, don’t forget that they are bringing back from the dead examples of a FE.2b and a Sopwith 5F1 Dolphin. Who wouldn’t want to see a five Sopwith’s in a row? (Pup, Triplane, Camel, Strutter, Dolphin.) The grounding of the LVG is a real shame. I was lucky enough to mind a wing tip on this aircraft recently, and the tingle of the engine through the airframe was memorable. The was some talk of engine runs at Hendon, as a feature of the CGW Hangar – so this may not be a total loss.
I am a member of Northern Aeroplane Workshops, and involved with the building of the Camel. We have a full set of drawings, and the only deviations will be to satisfy CAA and Safety requirements- essential if it is to fly. An original engine, machine guns and instrumentation will be fitted, along with other genuine parts so it should not look out of place in the collection. I will post some recent pictures, the fuselage and first wing can be viewed at the Skopos Motor Museum in Batley W. Yorks
RE: Norton Airfield (Sheffield)
I can add to Naylan’s post, I used to live near to RAF Norton, and I have also flown from Netherthorpe Airfield. RAF Norton was a Balloon base, and also home to mobile radar units. I believe that aircraft were brought in on trailers for repair, I also have a newspaper clipping that shows a Westland Whirlwind helicopter landing at RAF Norton for “Evaluation.” The site is now an industrial estate, although several of the RAF buildings still exist, and are visible from the main road that borders it. Several large hangars were destroyed in the mid 70’s, and I explored a very large concrete air raid shelter in the late 80’s which may still be there. For a photo:-

RE: Is it a Marauder?
It doesn’t answer your question, but it might be of interest.

RE: Underwater Wellington
Yes, this one may be best left where it is, however, if the same principal had been applied universally Brooklands would be without it’s Wellington, Hendon and Canada would be without their Halifaxes, Malta would be without it’s Hurricane, the list goes on and on. I think the key is proper planning and sufficient resources, and believe that efforts should be made to save significant airframes before it is too late. Who wouldn’t want to see a recovered Stirling? There is at least one potentially in a freshwater lake. Is anyone aware of other recovery prospects? No need to mention specific locations.

RE: Another for Keithmac
Unfortunately, the LVG does look to be heading for static display at Hendon. It is only on loan from them, and has been issued recently with an “M” number. I assume it will be included in the new WW1 collection when the C.G.W. Hangar is moved.
Do you have a flying shot of the Bristol M.1C?
RE: Wallrus heading for the paint shop!
Does anyone have a recent photo of this aircraft? I would also be interested to know the latest on G-RNLI, being restored in the UK.
RE: Duxford from the North
Thanks for that,
parking moan apart – Duxford is still the best day out. I’ve lost count of the number of times i’ve visited over the years. See you there in 2002 (after a walk!!!)
