From 60,000 ft, F-22 can see threats that are over the horizon. AEGIS cannot.
OK, let’s take it a step further.. could the AEGIS system hand-off control to the F-22 to guide an AEGIS SAM to the target either by illuminating the target with its APG-77 or guide it to the vicinity until a sensor on-board the SAM can detect and prosecute the kill?
LtCol. Berke mentions “integration with AEGIS” as one of the things being developed.. any care to speculate how the F-22 does this?
Thanks for posting, a very interesting article indeed.
I wonder how they plan to completely restore it without the wings…
Are they going to put it on display without them?
They probably just took the wings off as part of the restoration process.
Here’s something I came across. Basically it says the scenario doesn’t take into account the new way of waging war new tech affords.

Looks like a good investment to maximize the F-22 fleet’s potential.
What’s new about it? Looks like the same old report to me.
The F-86 is my first choice though that other plane flying beside it is pretty good too..
Just another step in the ongoing process of re-deploying more forces from the European theater to the Pacific. I like how the 3 subs surfaced on the same day as the report states. Real subtle.
[QUOTE=djcross;1599646]Except for broadband low observables, operational sensors/weapons systems and a cadre of trained pilots with several deployments under their belts :p[/Q
not to mention easily a decade or more technological advantage..
The F-18SH are configured with AESA and I think there is no problem related to ToT. I think the F-16 by itslef is a long-shot to win the MMRCA bid but if LM can find some way to include an option to upgrade to F-35s later, who knows what strange things can transpire. Just speculation on my part in the hope of seeing the reaction from the other bidders.:D
Given the latest revelations that the F-35 is going to cost the same as the latest F-16 at US$60M, can LM possibly package some sort of creative lease arrangement for the IAF to acquire F-16s initially to be traded in later of F-35s? No doubt the other vendors would be very upset if India changes the rules of the bidding to accomodate such a strategy but if its perceived to be in India’s best interests, who knows what could happen?
LM CEO confirms that the F-35A will cost as much as a brand new F-16 – US$60M.
gotta love the part:
so, basically, a LM rep the results in F-35 tests are irrelevant?
so, basically, when they don’t like the result, it’s “wrong”… Am I the only one to find that statement ridiculous, to say the least?
It wasn’t LMA just putting out a statement that suited it.. This was a considered decision arrived at by the the F-35 Operational Advisory Group and approved through the joint JSF Executive Steering Board, which includes membership from all nine JSF partner counties.
“Rigorous combat analysis revealed that the survivability improvements afforded by the engine fuses and fire extinguishing features were very small,” Kent wrote. “These changes were thoroughly reviewed by All agreed that the weight saved by the elimination of these components would be better utilized in maintaining the performance capabilities of the aircraft. The present design meets the JSFPO’s expectations for vulnerability.”

Ideally, Israel could get its hands on some MOPs and the bombers to carry them.
