This copy of Northrop’s reply to my letter (virtually ten
years ago), may be of interest.

Sorry about the print, my mailbox had been soaked in
rainwater when their envelope came, and wrecked some
very lovely photos of both Black Widow/Gray Ghost
prototypes which they had enclosed. Some of these same
photos can be found on the net.

One of them, together with another superb shot of the
F-20 Tigershark (sent by Northrop too), hangs on my
office wall. I’ve kept the YF-23 decal too all these years.

Interestng that the guy replying to you stated “from what has been written”, implying he’s playing it safe by avoiding reasons not available to public knowledge

I don’t know about you guys, but in terms of politics and personality, Americans and French are pretty damn similar.. the only difference is the Americans tend to win wars.

With the F16 reaching the point where it can no longer be substantially improved – esp. where airframe and wing loading is concerned – perhaps a co-developed F16/F2 SuperKai hybrid would be an interesting option, particularly in view of the latters bigger wing.

it’ll still need new engines as its current one doesn’t produce enough thrust for it’s size, then there’s the structural problem and it’s less than stellar AESA

i did consider ‘Mac’ instead of ‘Mark’, but Mac is pronounced as ‘mek’, which would make the katakana パック. Besides, I dont really think the Japanese would name their fighter after a meal from Macdonalds, even with all their idiosyncracies. lol. Not unless they wish their fighter to be ‘eaten’ up by adversaries. πŸ˜€

don’t worry, all their enemies fly copied versions of Whopper Jrs πŸ˜‰

Anyone guess why the plane is nicknamed ‘Big Mark’?

actually it says Big Mac.. Big Mark would be written like this..γƒ“γƒƒγ‚°γ€€γƒžγƒΌγ‚―
and that is today’s daily katakana lesson πŸ˜‰

C’mon Burger, if you’re going to pick a “loser” you have to be in the right situation.

US Navy-took the YF-17 over the YF-16. YF-17 better suited for naval modifications. Right situation.

Japan-taking the inferior X-32 over the superior (and at this point much more developed) F-35 for anti-aesthetic reasons: w wrong situation.

Now, buying the F-23 over the inferior F/A-22…that one would be truly interesting. Never happen though πŸ˜€

Ok Sean, you mocked me long enough.. I will show you what Japan really has, this is just for you..

a model if their new fighter and supposed picture of prototype being tested…

It’s being nicked named as the Mitsubishi “γƒ“γƒƒγ‚°γ€€γƒžγƒƒγ‚―β€

Asahi Shimbun stated that these new fighters will operate from this new innovative aircraft carrier design that will combine the advantages of a submarine AND an aircraft carrier.

Alrite, Condor, i take back my last post. And in no way do i disput the fact that more F-16s r coming to Chile. But at 60 mil a piece, dunt you find it rather expensive? I mean the standard quote for Gripen is 30 mil.

find me one country that purchased the Gripen for 30 million.

it’d be kick ass to see a JSDF F-22 with the F-2’s camouflage scheme..

but too bad, Japan should really consider license building the X-32 :diablo:

and to SOC..you must be crazy if the US should sell to Saudi Arabia.. that place could very well end up turning into the next “Iran”
