    Who wins in a fight (BVR and dogfight)? F-18 or Mirage-2000?

    ๐Ÿ™‚

    Quite naturally the F-18!

    I don’t know if anyone recalls, but during the Franco-Spanish war of 1999, EF-18’s were caught in a brief air skirmish with L’armee del’air Mirage 2000-5’s over the independent Kingdom of Basque. The two EF-18’s manage to shoot down 10 Mirages using their Meteor BVRAAM, however there was one surviving Mirage 2000. One of the EF-18 happened to still be carrying his fuel tank, and he flew over the Mirage 2000 and jettison his tank ontop of the Mirage, sending it down over the Caucasus mountains. Because of this, the Spanish Army and Armada gained significant aerial coverage and managed to absorbe Basqueland into their country.

    I think the American media should focus on more coverage over Americans fighting and dying in Iraq rather than a vegetative woman dying. for shame, for shame.

    Hi JW, SteveO and all you Typhoonettes (aka. Lost Souls) :diablo:

    I hope the attachment is legible.
    A minor correction is necessary. If you look at that part of the table that depicts the laser guided bombs youยดll see that five 400kg bombs can be carrried. Those five hardpoints can also carry 1000kg bombs or SCALPs ie. five*1000kg bombs or five SCALPs.

    “the currently non existant A2G capabilities of the Rafale and Typhoon who only hold “potential”
    F18, youยดre a silly little hamburger, aren’t you?
    What they cannot yet do is transmit course correction and target updates to GPS and INS steered weapons. They cannot yet accept target handoffs from other platforms. Most other planes also cannot do any of this yet. This notion that both planes are completely incapable of dropping anything is ludicrous. Both aircraft, Typhoon and Rafale can take off right now and go drop bombs. Accurately. All the standard HUD targetting modes are already programmed. I could, for example, load a couple of Mk 84s onto my Rafale, load your coordinates into the autopilot and visit you. Steve and JW can do pretty much the same thing with a Typhoon( I don’t know who’ll fly and who will be WSO). Obviously I can do it more elegantly ๐Ÿ˜€

    Can the Rafale really use AMRAAM? It’s as questionable as the Eurofighter using Mica.

    My friend, you are the French version of JWcook
    because of that, you two deserve a little hamburger

    Well yes, the F-22 isn’t operational either!!, its not easy to distill the diverse capabilities of weapons and aircraft into a set of numbers, its best effort! etc etc, and I didn’t fancy updateing it every few months every time a weapon was cleared!!!

    Your either a natural or you’ve play this game before!!! :rolleyes:

    Cheers

    Fair enough, but because of that, I don’t think it serves a useful purpose in trying to prove if plane X is better than Y ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Other than that, I do like your site, ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hows it scored??, thats easy just put 100% in one box and compute, and this will give you the weighting for each aircraft.

    And did you know that if you add a few letters and take a few letters away from ‘Hamburger’ is a perfect anagram of ‘Greasy bun’ ๐Ÿ™‚ .

    [b]

    and what are these “weights” based off of? the currently non existant A2G capabilities of the Rafale and Typhoon who only hold “potential” :confused:

    as for Hamburger you can take a few letters away and add a few letters to get “go hump a dog”

    I meet a famous person everyday when I go visit him at the mirror. Sometimes at night, I meet a very infamous person instead.

    OK I’ll bite!!

    see http://www.eurofighter.starstreak.net/Eurofighter/tech.html see National Evaluation and evaluate them yourself….

    Take a browse round the site, and compare!!!, oh and read the caveats first!! ๐Ÿ˜€ :diablo:

    Cheers

    Oh come now, this national evaluation thing is based on an excel sheet program you made years earlier. No matter how many times one adjusts what he/she needs, it will more likely than not, be in favor of the Typhoon!

    if everything is set to 100%
    Typhoon = 100%
    Rafale = 98%

    However if everything is set to 0%, except A2G left at 100%
    Rafale = 100%
    Typhoon = 99%

    I’d like to see how one derived the formula for this :rolleyes:

    my pick.. probably surprising to a few..

    and it is

    the MiG-29M2!!!

    why: It’s cheaper and can be produced faster, Dassault products, while better quality in general, take forever to build. If you want something interrim, best get something cheap like the MiG-29M2 which can quickly replace MiG-21’s and the like. And let’s be honest.. if you are eventually going to seek a 5th generation fighter, both the MiG and mirage are obsolete, might as well go for the cheaper one to tide you down until the more capable aircraft exists.

    OR

    http://www.danshistory.com/ef2000.jpg

    well, in this scenario it could be both! Blame the French selfishness, and on the Typhoon side, them choosing the Germans for a partner and British politicians :dev2:

    In my country, the F-16 is known as our only fighter. As a result, many refuse to join the Air Force. (Viper01 is going to kill me for this :diablo: )

    if you ask me, the designs are all pretty ugly. I kinda wish they stuck to a CTOL carrier instead.
