It looks like the Replica program owes alot to the work BAE did with McDonnell Douglas on their JSF proposal.

yeah it does look kinda cool, it makes one wish that the Brits never participated in EAF and JSF and stuck to developing this. of course the latter happened because it did .

Hitler would’ve been replaced by Charlie Chaplin, same charisma, same fame, same moustache.

well if the Brits intend to view every politician negatively, then what politician in modern British history did people actually like, Even the Americans had their faves.

if the Greeks didn’t have the Turks to contend with, I don’t think they would maintain such a large force for its size.

Other wise, I bet you w/o Turkey, the Greek military would consist of 20 Gripens and 10 frigates :p

considering the threat comes from insurgents/terrorists on the ground, don’t forget:

    – escort for transport helicopters
    – protection of convoys
    – armed surveillance, patrolling surroundings of high value assets
    – show of force

Which is why an armed troop transport copter such as the Mi-24 is ideal while armed recon helicopters and light attack helicopters such as the Augusta or OH-2 are ideal for surveillance and patrols and are not ridiculously expensive targets (vulnerable probably but much cheaper to replace) furthermore UAVs are also doing the job well too being much cheaper and offering good loiter time.

The Kongo. a spin off of one of the best US DDGs
capabilities are actually known, not paper stats or assumed
been in service longer, better trained and experienced crews
knicks and knacks adjusted due to experience.

Would have to be Sea Harriers – there has never been a GR4 and those T4s left are probably being phased out, if they haven’t been already.;)

    Flood

Sorry I meant GR7, was thinking of Tornado i suppose. Thanks for subtlely pointing it Tom.

KD-2 is 5000ton general purpose destroyer with focus on the AAW segment of its combat capability. 32 cell Mk41 is loaded with SM-2MR missiles. It’s a shady department in terms of DDG. It’s on the level with non-AEGIS era air defense ships, but has been designed to work in supporting role with the KDX-3. KDX-3 has begun construction, btw, with expected launch date of early 2008.

The problem here wouldn’t be that Turkey would be in danger of a possible retaliation or crisis with Iran and so they must maintain the appearance of being neutral. The problem is that whatever appearance they maintain, if they appear guilty in the eyes of their population there’s bound to be trouble, for the fragile Islamist government, the Military which is just waiting for a chance like this to intervene, etc. etc.

And Iran’s nuclear program IS less of a threat than it is to Israel.;-)

As much as 25% of Iran’s population are Turkic closely related to Turkish and Azerbaijanis. Since Turkey has tended to be pan-Turkic, I think they wouldn’t mind the idea of the emergence of another Turkic state coming out of Iran.

    That’s the British for you, F-18. 🙂

Seriously, though, don’t take a large majority in Parliament as evidence of massive popularity.

The British “first past the post” electoral system always exaggerates the level of support for the winner.

What are the chances of Tony winning a re-election then? Like Americans, I always hear such opposition and disapproval of their leaders yet they keep coming back.

I’m not sure what kind of electorial system you guys have as Britain is one of the few only euro countries where i have NOT been.. but I sure hope they can emulate the Finnish example.
