What do you guys think of these two aircraft in terms of AA and A2G. Both have been used in both of the roles, especially the Mig-21.

The F-5 has 5 hardpoints and 2 wingtips while Mig-21 has 5 hardpoints, the F-5 has a MUCH bigger payload, has a quite a large nose to accomodate a good BVR radar. The Mig-21 has a single engine=less maintenance, it has better climb rate, it’s faster and has higher ceiling. What do you guys think about their previous performances and also as AA machines? They both have similar turning/roll rates and both suffer from short range, and view outside the cockpit.

I say the F-5 is preferable.. why? along with more hard points and a larger payload, it also has very good range for such a baby sized fighter.. I mean seriously.. it’s range is something that the Gripen might not be able to match!

As for the single engine thing.. true single engine light fighters are nice..but you got to remember, the MiG-21 isn’t made with today’s engines 😉 since most MiG-21s are still using engines from that era not to mention the numerous crashes..I think i’d feel safer in the F-5.

As for the radome..the BIS looks like it has a larger one.. :confused:

But if I was a poor ass nation or one that’s hurt.. I say using upgraded F-5s might be more preferable than upgraded MiG-21s, although the Bison sure does look good.

The mongols weren’t great armies they only deployed a tactic that was hard to fight with, do you really understand that they were nomads so they come and pillage, and leave before an army was raised to repel them… How long did it last??? well only until gangis kahn died!!!

and the manchus won only because a chinese general (Wu San Gui) let them through the gate at the boarder. The general rebelled against the ming dynasty…due to cival war his beautiful wife was taken by the rebles, so to spite the emporior he let the manchus in!

Thanks for proving my point missy, like I said.. the Mongols, Manchus and Japanese were smaller than the Chinese. And how did they manage to win? That’s right, because of the Chinese themselves, like how you stated a Chinese general allowed the Chinese in, and how the Chinese were so busy fighting themselves that other people took advantage such as Japan. Like I said, if you want to blame some one, blame it on the Chinese themselves for getting their own selves to be weak and overrun, it’s how almost every Chinese dynasty ended, and it’ll probably be that way for the rest of their history 😉

BTW, the navy 2 seater was also the less capable :

– it had less internal fuel…so less range
– no internal gun
– it was the most expensive version
– it was not needeed for naval training purposes (the rafale M is very easy to fly and land on an aircraft carrier)

You also forgot that the Rafale BM was also pretty ugly 😡

Serbia should get a couple of these..

they are perfect! they are Western origin, with western standards thus allowing Serbia a foot step into NATO, have internal weapons bay for stealth, are dirt cheap and could be quickly delivered, and most of all..it is so easy to fly that even Dubya could fly them! :dev2:
