Obviously you cannot tell the difference between American marines, Liberian soldiers, European military forces and whatever passes for the Cyprus militia…
Have you been sacked, Hammy? You’d have posted about a dozen McD pix here usually.Flood.

It would be great to have a flight sim with non american acs for a change. I know that they have had sims with Su-27s, MiG-29s and Su-25s but I want to see Mirages, Rafales, the new Typhoon, FC-1, LCA, J-10 etc.
here you go

looks quite a bit like the LCA, and probably would’ve been the same size too.

Yup..but they’re not! ho ho ho..
well they say India got some FBW tech from the Americans..
I say the M2K is the better deal.. it’s operating costs is only a little higher than that of the Gripano..
but if you’re a non-European buyer.. you may consider the fact that most of the Gripens preciousssss weapons like AMRAAM and Maverick, and it’s engine are all American
while the M2K is mostly french..with Mica and it’s M53 or whatever engine.
Furthermore, the future plans to give the Gripen more indigenous components like Meteor, EJ200 engine, and blah blah won’t be realized for a a long time, even a decade. Not to mention the Gripen is still undergoin tests with other weapon systems..
the M2K mk 5 can already use various GPS guided munitions, Israeli, French, etc already.. something MANY non American airplanes are currently missing.
Furthermore, the M2K mk5 can carry more and carry it farther than the Gripen.. and
most importantly.. Sweden got that odd export restriction where you can’t use it in war or some sort..
I say..get M2K mk5 which will be good enough for you until a real 5th generation aircraft becomes more available.
Corbato, i must say that aside from you insulting Garry B (which is perfectly acceptable), you put up some good counter arguements.. good job ol’chap.
so I guess you’re not too much of a fan of the Typhoon or Rafale then since it’s only slightly bigger than the M2K and F-16 but uses 2 engines.
at the pace it’s going makes the LCA and the FC-1 look like shrimp on a hook.

Yes, he actually glorifies a single engine conception as the ultimate solution, ignoring the facts that especially in carrierborne ops one single engine failure over the whole service life usually costs you the complete $30-40 mil. aircraft.. Over the sea there are no possibilities to bring the bird down, no airstrips for emergency landing. And, usually, the operations are being played on fairly larger area than over the land where you have to obey the rules, corridors, evade civil areas etc. The landing is also far more complicated, so there is little chance to let the bird glide down onto the deck to get a wire landing.. In 99% you got nothing but to use a hot seat and write down another $40mil cheque.. Engine failure is still very typical even with todays FADEC engines and the higher attrition rate likely balances the cost savings due to less fuel and less maintenance. Not speaking about human life.
so to put it simply, you are preferring double engines over scenarios over the sea

I am not interested into Fulcrum now, I simply disagree with many arguments he used regarding single-engined aircraft in general and his glorifying the Viper is not based on any real facts only personal preference… Nothing wrong with that but I felt like providing some reaction. No need to calm down, I am easy, only a bit surprised..
that’s good, don’t Mind Corbato, he judges alot on personal preference (as reflected by types of posts), but didn’t strike me as the type who was glorifying the Viper.
Aerospace: That looks like two engines.

Ja, I hate to say it, but attempting a serious debate with someone who uses his time here attempting to be “cute” ( ) and flooding the forum with hamburger pictures is not a good way to expend brain power 🙂
Mods please ban this guy for flaming. I brought up a logical point for Ja Worsey and he goes and adds more flavor to it, tsk tsk tsk..
so much for a guy who says “I can ignore all flames” when he always takes my bait 😎
Calm down Flexy burger, he was merely pointing out single engine vs double engine, not necessarily bashing on the MiG-29 exclusively 😀
