Doesn’t it have to do with other people pushing the scales on your posts? Something like that i guess…
The Key boards are not ACIG. That forum was, after some time playing around, set up as a large database where threads aren’t really archived, but kept alive with every new piece of information. It’s extremely convenient if you want to find some info on a certain topic: it’s more than likely that you will discover that the particulair topic you’re interested in is a separate thread at ACIG, and after having found that you’ll find a whole bunch of information. It’s organised much more as an information database rather than a discussion forum like this one here (not saying there are no debates at ACIG, far from it!).
I can understand the attitude some of ACIG’s people have when looking at this one, and i’m definately not blaming them. But i don’t think a comparison is really fair, simply because of the totally different ways these two boards are organised. I post a lot more here, but i’m pretty often at ACIG doing some (re-)searching.
And in case anyone remembers my prophecies that i would probably get struck by lightnin before getting elected moderator… not quite. But a lightning strike here on my flat did fry my DSL modem 😮 (the rest is fine though), i’ll be getting a replacement somewhere this week. But for now, i’m all humble on dial-up… 🙁
Now why does this “I wanna be elected” always make me think more of the Ramones than of Alice Cooper?
Pah pah papa pah pah pah papaaah
I wanna be sedated…
Realistic sound files? I don’t think your neighbours will approve, but then again i doubt your speakers will survive either.
Looks good.
A Japanese Nakajima/Showa L2D, known to the Allies as ‘Tabby’ during WW2.
The second, unfortunately small pic shows a Li-2 (or PS-84 as it was still called back then) after having been shot down during the Great Patriotic War. It’s got an interesting camo scheme, much better than the plain green Lisunovs which you can still find quite a few in the fUSSR.
Dirtyharry,
If you want to revive the Lavi-was-completely-indigenous vs. Lavi-was-basically-a-US-aircraft debate, there should be some info on it in the archives. While the Lavi concept initially did indeed call for a light, cheap, simple and indigenous attack jet to replace the Skyhawks (and appearantly later the Fougas/Tzukits in the training role), by the time the Lavi reached prototype stage it had become a whole lot heavier with by then a large part of the whole systems and research involved being American rather than Israeli.
There are some links inside those threads too, should make an interesting read.
Twenty lines of text and four pictures of the TNI-AL Beagles. The one survivor, 510 at Surabaya, is not mentioned at all.
You don’t need me to quote you all the articles that appeared since the mid 90′ in Janes, Aviation week and the rest of the good old guys.
The similarity between the J-10 and the Lavi is just a bit too great to be a coincidence.
Back then there were only vague pictures of J-10 models, nothing substantial to base any connections on except for a layout similarity. By now we do have detailed images of the J-10, but still nothing more than layout similarity. I am only asking you to back up your Lavi-ancestry claims, nothing more. Just like i backed up my claims that the Lavi was eventually a mostly American aircraft rather than an indigenous Israeli one 😉 Besides, i can equally argue that the Lavi was based on the Ye-8 (rather than on the F-16).
You know what, I was wrong to write probably.
And to your unhumble opinion, what is a good enough proof?
Well, i am pretty strict in this… but any admission, be that official or not, from either Israel or China (the latter being extremely unlikely of course) that Israel in any sort of way contributed to the design or development of the J-10. I want sources, not suggestions.
I think the Moderators will do a fine job in cutting down the endless serious of postings which only are made just to make personal comments rather than debating anything. At least that seems to be the forum’s opinion.
If people don’t respect the forum opinion, why stick around any longer? There are other forii et al.
Escuincle,
could you please put something smaller-sized in your signature? We all love Admiral Akbar, but that’s just a bit too much.
The Do-31? Yeah, and there were other small VTOL projects as well. None of them as ambitious as this V-44 pipedream, and arguably none of them as useless.
Face it, you don’t need your medium-range transport to bring the goods directly to the frontline. Your transport is much to precious for that, especially if you just made it ultra-expensive by making it VTOL. Bringing in the goods to a local airstrip and distribute the rest by truck or helicopter.
And if you want a 20 tonne payload-capable vehicle to do vertical takeoffs, just buy a Mi-26.
I seriously doubt it. Interesting as it is, it’s too much an obscurity of aviation to warrant any serious sales. Even more so since it won’t be considered recommended reading by any military, which cuts a significant part of potential sales.
Also, with the recent IAPR article (nothing too exhaustive though) i think most enthusiasts are already served. Unfortunately.
Maybe to your humble opinon. Even though most of the important names of military aviation press agree with me. Most of them believe that the J-10 has its roots from the Lavi. Nothing more.
Hey, only i get to declare my opinion to be humble. And this time, it ain’t 😀
Please cite some sources and quotes for “most of the important names of military aviation press” in their beliefs that the J-10 has its roots in the Lavi. I don’t think any aviation expert citing the Lavi – J-10 relation by pointing out the canopy can be taken serious. Ever seen an F-15 canopy, Erez? I’m sure you’ll immediately dismiss that the Lavi canopy was taken from the F-15, so why do you think this red herring holds up for the J-10?
I truly admire the Chinese for being able to (IMHO) redesign that much. But from scratch?
No, not when it probably (IMHO) had an existing base.
So now it’s probably again? If you like to think that the J-10 is based on the Lavi, that’s fine but you need to come up with more to substantiate your beliefs. Canopies and ventral fins are not enough.
Perhaps Americans got a separate squadron to overcome the language barrier :p ?
It sounds like inventing a problem to fit a solution, the solution being fixed-wing tactical transports.
