About that French Minijet thing: it was the SIPA 200 Minijet, a really small side-by-side trainer with a single jet engine producing an not quite impressive 150kg thrust. It flew first in 1952 (didn’t know the French had F-47s flying still then!), and seven were built but it lost out to the Fouga Magister and Morane-Saulier Paris (the latter being taken up for navigation training and hack) for the Armée de l’air.

05 is also called Ilya Murometz (this was actually the first one to recieve a name, when i was at Engels in 1996 this was the only one with a nickname and the flashy things painted on it). Ilya Murometz wasn’t just the name of a famous Russian knight, it was also the name of Sikorsky’s large four-engined bomber which saw action during WW1 (Sikorsky then still being in Russia obviously). These Blackjacks are named more after this bomber than after the knight, really. See the pic below.

07 is Aleksander Molodchii – a WW2 pilot.

I don’t know of the other ones, at least in 2001 not all of them had names yet. I expect at least Vladimir Chkalov to become one, and possibly fighter-pilot’s names like Ivan Kozhedub or Ivan Nikitovich… and perhaps even Lilya Litvak, but i’d expect a completely female Tu-160 crew first (which isn’t likely IMHO).

Ukraine never issued names to their Blackjacks, and they have all been withdrawn. One at least survives at Poltava, the remainder has either been scrapped 😡 or handed back to Russia.

We can get our McFrozenMilkErsatz with McM&Ms, McDaim’s, McCoffee-ersatz and McSomething-nutty-and-crunchy. But i haven’t had any McFood for fourteen months now, last time i had it my stomache felt like a McStomache for three days. I wasn’t sick or anything – but i felt like i’d just eaten an overly McGreasy McBurger five minutes ago, three days long. Yuk!

And it’s not just a thermonuclear reactor… it’s a McThermonuclear Reactorpounder. You can get your thermonuclears at any eatery (döner and kebap places are usually in the Megatonne range).

I had the McLettuce last time i had the McPot-au-Feu, but i didn’t like it that much. The McBarbarians in the McKitchen had the nerve to use black McTruffles, while would have preferred white McTruffels.

How is it on your side of the McChannel, by the way? Is it a McSpotted D!ck, or Spotted McD!ck?
