The yellow aerial looks to be part of an APN-2 Rebecca system. The shape is slightly different to the wartime ones, it looks more like those fitted to Varsity, Shackleton etc.

Its darkened the day a bit to learn that Baz has gone. The wicked sense of humour and the way a quick chat could turn into a lost three hours (in person or on the phone) will be missed.
Its daft. Every time it seems like its cleared up, they come back for another go; the “If we can’t have it, no-one can.” mentality confuses me properly.
HP111 – the password has changed frequently. Its being investigated as to how access as ‘site owner’ was gained in order to delete it all.
The bit about ‘posted on one forum by a member of the team’ is a bit misleading too. Its on several forums, was from a PR statement by their Director of Communications and published on the forums by their Director of Engineering and Airframe Compliance (shortfinals – that is your title, correct?)
The removal was done well, I hadn’t noticed for ages the undercarriage had gone as the centre section was stored in a cradle of sorts next to our Shackleton spares. Lovely to see your engine running, great work. 🙂
I hate to be a party pooper, but it looks to be a Dornier 217 with underwing fuel tanks, or glide bombs. The german cross underneath its port wing (seen better in the Flickr link) also suggest its not a Lincoln.
I’m in regular contact. I’ll PM you some details.

Rich
Some of the Lancasters that landed out were repaired and flown back to the UK, not taking part in the raid. For instance – NF920 was one of the 13 that was ‘missing’ having landed at another airfield which was much shorter and bordered by trees damaging one of her radiators.
NF920 is the wreck that featured in John Nichol’s documentary, sadly since then there’s been more pilfering as a result of making it more widely known. Parts such as the cockpit canopy frame, front turret frame and pilots floor/seat base have all gone, presumably into private collections. It winds me up as me and others have spent ages doing things the right way to try and effect recovery, only to have people go take what they please… with some of it showing up on ebay.
NF920 wasn’t one of the Russian write offs, she was on the second Tirpitz mission by 617 when she force landed in Sweden. Rather happily there has been some progress which may see her recovered in the near future in a joint UK/Sweden effort.
At least one of the wrecked Lancs was recovered and flown by the Russians, I believe it was reported to have crashed some years later near Moscow. There are photos of it kicking about, I’ll try and find a link.
One’s a resale, the other (Ashby Aero) is a chap who we know who is a long time collector of parts. The ones that were stolen were in immaculate condition, they were brand new unused blades.
I reckon the first time we turn one on the starter we’ll have a crowd. I was amazed how many people appeared out of nowhere the first time we dragged a trolley acc around to the Meteor to see what did and what didn’t work.
Peter,
The strange squeak is one of the aileron rod bearings we pulled off the Sennybridge wreck, its not quite as happy as it could be. But it’ll get a bit more attention over the coming weeks and it’ll behave eventually!

At that time she was pure AEW2, since 2014 (ish) various MR2 parts have been creeping back in, and AEW2 kit slowly took out.
Just a guess… Its not actually for use on a Derwent, you’re making a light sabre?
