Thanks T023 for being the perfect host, and thanks also for the mince pies!
I always enjoy a visit to Newark as you can guarantee a friendly atmosphere and yesterday was a perfect example of that.
It was good to meet some fellow forumites, put faces to names, and hear about the various projects going on.
Dear Santa –
Please may I have 1x complete set of Shackleton spar booms. I have been (reasonably) good this year and promise to be even better behaved if you bring them.
Failure to deliver will result in the boys being sent round to have a word.
Come on Santa, you know it makes sense. :diablo:
That’s brilliant!
I always love looking at the various caricatures and cartoons that show up of the Shackleton. There were some good ones in this months Shackleton Association magazine, showing what could have happened if the Navy had used Shackletons!
Dec 15th we’re going to do a short ground run if anyone is interested, as WR963 has been quiet since Airbase closed. Its usually carried out around 1300hrs, but you’re welcome to get there a bit earlier. Send pm’s please as with the restrictions in place I need to know roughly who I’m expecting.
After that over the Christmas/New Year period attendance will be a bit sporadic due to festivities, making merry and family events that people have on.
Regards,
Rich
Worry not. Our ‘giraffe’ steps that we use on WR963 are now fixed, and we’ve just been told we can do a little housekeeping on XV232. 😉
Not at the moment. XV232 has had a couple of visits from Elvington’s team, but a far as I’m aware there’s no real efforts under way with her at the moment.
Several of us up and down the country are going to sleep a little easier tonight, thats for sure!
Following a very positive meeting today, we can confirm WR963 (and XV232) will be staying at Coventry. The airport operators have confirmed they have no wish to see us leave, and will be looking to find a solution that allows us to continue – and possibly further – our activities.
Exact details have yet to be worked out due to the redevelopment plans, but a certain Shackleton will be staying right where she is (give or take 1/2 a mile.)
Regards,
Rich
They’re not made in one piece, so I would believe it! Later marks had various bits fitted for the stall warning too. Then with the MR3 the design changed completely.
There’s that many detail differences from MR1 to MR2 its infuriating, especially when you have bits for one and not the other. The MR1 shares more parts with Lancaster and Lincoln than it does with later Shackletons.
Tony’s yoke is the MR2/AEW2 version, easy to spot as it hasn’t got the mounts for the brake levers. While the overall shape is the same, they are slightly different.
I think those buttons are just filling the gaps, it looks a bit odd.
This is one of the yokes fitted to the MR1/T4 nose we look after which was kindly supplied by a member of this forum. It gives you an idea of the kind of switches you’re looking for.

It has the mount points for brake levers, and the holes where switches mount look to be a different shape to the later yokes, so I would say its the MR1/T4 item.
Rather annoyingly my parts manual is still at Coventry after using it while digging through the stores this weekend… so until I get it back I can’t say for sure, or give you part numbers. Many apologies. 😡
Rich
I think it may have been Mark or Vic there yesterday, I’ll pass your message on to them. Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

Rich
Which variant is it? MR1, MR2, MR3 etc? Each one was slightly different. I’ll dig my parts manual out and see if I can get you some descriptions and part numbers.

Rich
