haha, thats being a little pedantic isnt it? Increasing numbers of people are blissfully unaware that chinaman is an old slur as it’s not in common usage anymore and by namesake it appears to hold no racist connotations.
No at all, the phrase ‘chinaman’ is a racist slur no matter what circles you move in and through its usage gate has proven himself to be a racist.
Dear Members,
Again, that old British saying “A battalion today, is better than a division a month from now.” In any situation other than going up against a US CVN a deGaulle is still a good bet.

.
Not if she is tied up in port leaving the French Navy without a carrier and the money she has absorbed is tied up with her.
The boat Polmar refers to is TK-20 Severstal, the man who got the medal was Rear-Adm. Makejev, he was not the commanding officer of the boat, rather the commander of the whole operation.
Typhoon’s sail is very sturdy and has specific profile just for the purpose of ice-breaking. Sure, some anechoic tyles will come off, there will be dents, but nothing dramatic or impairing the boat or it’s mission.
Submarines have internals as well.
Nobody in his right senses is going to RAM the ice layer. Instead you carefully blow the ballast and PUSH. Russian subs are double-hull, thus having bigger buoyancy, this helps a lot in such kind of operations. Double hull also means added safety for pressure hull against mechanical damage.
It does, but there is still a gradient, the more you push the more it hurts, at two metres, and this was the point jonesey was making, there will be some damage to the vessel.
Reading arthuros post just over half way down page herehttp://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=86855&page=5
it seems the Typhoon II could be a very bad choice for the RAF and others!
Thats what is known as nationalistic fanboy nonsense. Typhoon will be as useful a any other aircraft as long as it is integrated with the right systems.
Politics has ruined many a good aircraft project.
(cough) TSR-2
Ahem
No that was economic reality not politics, the two are very different.
What kind of stupid question is that?
The sub that did it didn’t fall apart now did it?
It’s not punching through 10 meters of concrete. It’s 2 meters of ice. Clearly a design parameter – one that doesn’t endanger the submarine.
Wow you are ignorant, sure the sub might not be endangered but the consequences of such forces are going to damage internal systems etc, in case of nuclear war such damage may be justifiable but it may also force the sub back to port. Have you ever slammed a car into brick wall…….its the same effect.
1. Have you actually served in the British or any Military service????
2. If so have you ever worked in ‘Joint’ Enviroment????
If that question is directed at me, the answer is very simple and one that I have given on this forum on many occasions I do not talk about my actual life online…….period.
You would change your mind after they have dropped few clusters on your head..
No I wouldnt.
Someone is missing the point that i was trying to make. Namely that steam is outmoded, overmanned and definately a point against the purchase of an Austin class.
Not here either ‘No but diesel is and steam is an ancient technology that is rapidly being abandoned. That these ships use that propulsion form will seriously work against any possible sale‘
Racist? My parents were born in India. They moved to the UK for a better quality of life. Are they racist for leaving there?
I used to find this board very interesting. But the attitude of certain members is very rude. For that reason, I will never post or visit again.
It’s all yours.
Good, anybody who uses the phrase ‘Chinaman’ is not welcome anyway and the loss of your racist attitude will be to the benefit of us all. Of course the real reason for your departure is your inability to provide any support for your assertions that the UK needs a massive increase in its defence budget.
So it became possible all of a sudden eh?
Jonesy isn’t the be all end all of Naval information.
The difference was possible and practically possible. Sure it might be able to drive its way through 2m of ice but what damage will it do to itself in the process?
Unless there the fleets AShM’s have land attack capability then the answer is very limited. I have no reason to believe that any of the AShM’s in the Black Sea Fleet have land attack capability.
.. as long as you classify A-5 Fantans as ‘small arms’..
No I classify them as ancient rusting antiques.
At least I am not rude, arrogant and pig headed sir. Your opinion is not fact. Your opinion is simply that….opinion.
I have cited multiple statements from reputable sources like the agency developing the actual system under debate (the US Missile Defense Agency)that state that there has not been enough operationally realistic testing. I have cited government reports and congressional testimony that state that significant quantities of the technology already deployed are not mature and will not be so for a number of years. That you have consistently shown no interest in even addressing them speaks to your lack of understanding of the arguments those on the other side of the article are making.
And all you can come back with are insults and statements that you cannot prove. It works you say. it has worked you say. it will work you say. The North Korea example you cite proves that you can read but not comprehend what you read as well as you claim.
But at the end of the day you will lose this argument. Obama will do the sensible thing and kill this boondoggle. You and the NeoCons can cry all you want but it is a flawed technology that does not work as advertised.
Again, it has intercepted numerable targets, it works, only your ignorance is blinding your from those facts.
