Okay from what I understand the RuAF has received its first two production Su-34’s.

With an update to the program finally, I was curious if anyone who’s knowledgable on it could fill me in on what all is going on. I’ve searched the net and it’s hard to sift through current and old as well as accurate and inaccurate.

    I’m curious about many things:

Radar – what type, what modes, and what ranges?
Tail Stinger – what all is in it? how does the radar work (if there is one)?
Weapons – anything in addition to what will be fielded on the Su-30/35 series?

I will soon attach a spreadsheet of the Su-34 that I made showing the various weapons it can carry and where they can be located. It’s kinda crude, but it should work. Please review it and correct me where necessary.

I know there are a ton of Russian fanatics on here so please help me out.

Question we would all like to know the answer to.;)

The endless chants of ‘death to america’ have been constantly present in Iran since Khomeini came in 1976. Why is it exactly now that it started to disturb you? Where were you the last 30 years?

Quite frankly, I find it pretty hard to acknowledge the United States having close to ten thousand most sophisticated nuclear warheads as endangered by a third world country having hard time to develop a nuclear power plant, let alone a most primitive fission bomb.

BTW, I fail to see the ABM system as purely defensive since a fully functioning system like that (which it IMO never will be) would disturb or completely shatter the nuclear balance of mutually assured destruction which effectively prevented the world from a major nuclear conflict. No one with a sane mind would support a system like this on just one side. I don’t trust Americans the same way I don’t trust Russians or Chinese.

Thats strange becouse your BS ranting is without exception aimed at the US, its funny that we have not seen your head pop up in the Russian missile news thread criticising the latest Russian ICBM tests.

I thought Sea Slug was removed from the County Class ships that were sold to Chile, the area around the launcher being built up into an extended heildeck.

At least two of the vessels kept their sea slug launchers until the late 1990’s.

So are you saying that there is a relationship between the Pero and the Irbis? It makes sense that the Pero was flown on the Su-30MK prototype as the radar was offered to China who already use the N001VEP.

Thanks for posting flex, we also know that the Irbis was first tested some time back, although IIRC at that time it failed its initial tests (something to do with the angles it could scan to). However like I say that was some time back and the Mig-35 showed us the Russian ability to fling up a surprise.;) I realy do hope this thing flys this summer!:diablo:

Sealord, I was asking similar question a while ago and also did thorough search on the topic – Tikhomirov has the N001VE+Pero combination as a marketing counter against Phazotron’s Zhuk-MSE but looks like Pero is currently not installed on any Flanker…. which is more or less a surprise for me. If the retrofit is really so easy as we are being told, then I would expect streams of orders from all sides.

Pero was selected for the Su-30KNM variant and second stage of Su-27UBM upgrade once but it looks to me that the whole Su-30KN lineage is dead by now, even the #302 prototype stopped appearing on airshows around the world. The cheap Flanker market has been conquered by KnAAPO with their Su-30MKK-based variants and IAPO seems to simply have failed to catch on here with Su-30KN/Su-27UBM.

Any more details would be greatly appreciated.

Thats pretty much all I have been able to find. I am just amazed that the Pero was not used either by the Chinese or by the RuAF Su-27SM upgrade. I have read that the Zhuk-MS is the ‘better’ radar, but if you already have the N001 this must be the easier option, if this realy was offered to China I cannot see why they would not backfit their entire fellt with it?

It seems more like the cheap Flanker market has dissapeared rather than it having been conquered, in hindsight it is not realy that surprising- anyone wanting a cheap fighter can have a Fulcrum. If you think you face a threat that requires a Flanker you probably want every goodie you can get.

Such as? Even the fact that the prototype is a reconstructed existing airframe rather than a new build raises doubts about this.

😮 Iran waging a major attack on the US? Care to elaborate on how did you come to such conclusion?

The endless chants of ‘death to america’ and the development of ICBM’s?

Its funny how you dont bat an eye lid at the likes of Iran and North Korea developing nukes but when the US builds a purely defensive ABM system it is somehow the greatest crime humanity has ever witnessed.

Yeah..Israeli partnership is going on for sometime now,but now it seems like that partnership is going to cost the French.

Reasons probably are 1.commonality 2.better/similar capabilities at lower prices 3.already existing co-operation on several levels;) .

Whats the latest status of the 2052?It would have been much better if they went in for the AESA right now.The M2Ks will soldier on till at least 2025.So they are putting 2032 now, when will they put 2052 again?

I read a while ago that the 2052 was under flight tests on an airliner but it has kind of dropped of the horizon since then. I think the radar choice offers India far greater flexibility. IIRC the 2052 is plug and play with the 2032, yu just plug in the new antennae and your good to go.

Hmm, I am confused a bit, what else would you expect it to have?

The way the aircraft was first presented it sounded as if the entire plane had been re-designed with RCS reduction and super-cruise in mind. However at the time it was suggested that the BM was to replace the SM as the Russian Su-27 upgrade programme, which naturally limts how different the aircraft can be from the original flankers.

Whilst the new radar/sensors engines and munitions are a great improvement they are all things that can and probably will be beackfitted to earlier flankers. I still maintain that this will be at least a good match for the Euro birds if not an all round better aircraft.

Who wants to attack the US so that ABM is needed?

    Iran.

When this aircraft was first reffered to, it was made out to be some revolutionary uber new generation flanker whose only resemblance to the Su-27 was a slight basic design similarity. However it is increasingly starting to look like nothing more than a demonstrator for the Irbis the Al-41F and a few other systems that could probably all be backfitted to existing variants. This does fit with the original claim that the Su-27 could be and would be upgraded to the new standard (IIRC it was said that this was to replace the Su-27SM programme?). It does seem like the Osa that was to sit in the tail sting has vanished.

Can anybody remember the designation of the Club variant (air launched 300km land attack) that was announced when the Mig-35 first appeared?

Thought the DF-41 was canned and now replaced by the DF-31A?

I was under the impression that it was three seperate programmes

    DF-31- roughly a 8000km range

    DF-31A- roughly a 10000km range

    DF-41- roughly a 12000km range

Sounds like they decided to go with the 2032 then. Interesting they didnt go down the M2K-9/Mica route. However the 2032 gives the IAF the ability to upgrade to the AESA 2052 in the future with out to much difficulty if they so desire.

For some reason I can’t access the JPGs of the brochure and I really want to. Am I doing something wrong?

I go to the linked website and click on the links following Sukhoi.

My suspicion abhout the A2G missiles is that they are Brahmos and the new Klub variant offered with the Mig-35 (300km range).
