I am sure i am echoing the thoughts of others here but what Su-27 variant are we talking about here? Just second hand RuAF versions, SKM’s? or a more advanced variant?
And what weapons, RV-AAE?, Kh-31? These planes have the potential to deliver fantastic capability to mexico if the order is made but it depends on the aircrafts fit.

Im surprised that they are going for the Zhuk-M sonsidering the recent flight testing of the Zhuk-MF. The SMT’s dorsal tank is bolt on, so you can buy it but you only have to install it when you want it.

Makes Brazil the third south american country to operate BVR missiles and gives a real boost to their airforce. As far as i know they are the second foreign customer for Derby???

I agree entirely, another good example is the critical lack of helicopters. Instead of simply ordering more Merlins and requesting rapid delivery the MoD ponders ‘future lynx’ the problem being that is a long way into the future!!!
The MoD is sacrificing british jobs, skills and industry, not to mention vast sums of money through a combination of incompetance and inefficiency. It has ceased to be a usefull and meaningful organisation and is now a self-sustaining and self feeding beaurocracy with an insane level of indecision.

Thank you Fedaykin, the feeling is mutual. The sad thing is that Britain has the technology and the designs to produce fantastic warships.
For Instance a BMD defence studies pentmaran with the ability to take 2 merlin sized helicopters, 64-96 VLS cells, a 55calibre 155 gun and a BAe sampson zenith radar (five fixed faces with one facing vertically upwards) combined with some Cerberus type frigates with 16 VLS cells, a single helicopter, a 39calibre 155mm gun and a single faced sampson radar. The motions for procuring these vessels could be put in place now if the funds were made available and the incompetance and inefficiency of the MoD rectified. But as today has shown management is not a specialty of the British Government.

Actually on another note recently the Royal Navy has put some consideration into purchasing corvettes.

The RN intends to upgrade the type 23s it has left in service and replace the Batch 3 type 22 with a Type 45 stretch variant equipped for command and land attack. If possible they have looked at replacing the older type 23s with some form of corvette.

The problem is that the MoD dosnt know what to do. They started of with the FSC programme but it rapidly grew to cruiser proportions and therefore far beyond the budget of the MoD, now they are playing with the idea of a split fleet of DDG type ships and corvettes but I have a hunch they will change their mind again.

Flex cant help himself, he is one of the enemys of freedom, the sort of person camp x-ray was built for. In a previous thread he tried to argue that Sadam Hussein was NOT a brutal dictator. The man just hates America and everything it stands for.

Yet another reason (as if anymore were actually needed) for the UK to go with the C variant and drop this V/STOL nonsense.

And another thing, SOC has pointed out sveral times that the cost of an F-22 is now down to under 100 million dollars, at the rate the F-35 is going youl be able to get one raptor for the price of 2 JSF’s.
I have said this time and again, I dont understand why the DoD dosnt ask loch mart to add EOT’s and DASS to the F-22, it wouldnt take much and would shut all the people up say its not multirole. It can alreay carry JDAM’s.

A truly great man, an aerospace genius, someone who harked back to a time when the french were brave and would stand up to evil, unlike now.

Your wrong, just becouse it hasnt happened in the last 50 years + dosnt mean it cant. The Nuclear weapons issue is realy irrelevant as no nation would use them first unless they were realy on the rails, about to take total defeat. The possibilty of future conflicts involving the US, Europe,Russia and China are very real indeed and it is only a fool who says that it wont happen.

In 30 and 40 years time DEWs will shoot down F-22s like a marksman shoots down pheasants.

    In my opinion:
There is 0 possibility of any more widespread wars between advanced countries, simply because it would go nuclear. Or if there were to be war, it would go nuclear so the F-22 wouldn’t make a difference. See the catch -22 situation in there? 🙂

There is actually very little chance of a war between advanced nations going Nuclear for the simple reason that to do so is to bring about ones own Total destruction (unless of course you are fighting someone without Nukes and can rely upon the rest of the world not to respond- so basically unless your Israel). If war did break between advanced countrys any statesmen should be able to recognise that the best bet is to reduce the opponents power to the lowest possible level then negotiate rather than pushing for full invasion and occupation which may well trigger a nuclear exchange.

No, name a scenario. That meant naming a country and a reason for conflict. Sorry for not making it clear 🙂

I will have a go at this one.

1)After his death Kim Jong Il’s relatives loose the power struggle in North Korea and somewhat less than stable General comes to power, following a period of worsening relations and the NK economy improving and small amounts of top line chinese equipment being purchased they take a gamble and go south. The US responds, fearing the losse of an allie and greater american involvment in asia china commits itself to the conflict sending several hundred thousand crack troops to support the NK’s, along with hoards of J-10’s, J-11’s and whatever the next model is= Raptor is very useful.

    2) Taiwan, war with china US backs Taiwan, the obvious.

    3) Russian economic revival continues, there is a desire to rebuild the nations former power, relations worsen over Russian/Nato/European involvement in eastern Europe and the caucasus and over Russian manipulation of the energy price. A scenario pops up that is unacceptable to all sides and the result is a slide to war. Lots of Su-34/35 and Pakfa= Raptor very useful.

    4) Any poxie tin pot, muslim. suicide bomber loving country kicks of, the US can afford to deploy less assets due to the Raptors dominance.

    :p :p :p
