heeroyui, I can not than you enough for the pictures of the Metorit, I have always loved that missile. So Russian, very fast very big, it even looks gorgeous, thankyou again!!!

There was also a submarine that was rebuilt to carry twelve of those missiles, I dont have the information with me at the moment but il remind myself later and post some pics if I can.

Was genocide a state policy in either of those conflicts?

I was including the USAAF raids over japan in my statement, I was simply trying to point out that with the exception of WW2 the west in general has been very civilised in its conduct during war.

As far as I am aware there is no such missile as the Shahab 4 in service, what there is is the,

Shahab-3, A basic ballistic missile with which the patriot/THAAD/Arrow systems should have little trouble.

Shahab-3B, Recent articles seem to suggest that this may also be called Fajir-3 (somewhat bizzare so I am not convinced) This reportedly has a warhead that is capable of manouvreing in the atmosphere, there are rumours that it uses russian technology. How this would fair against the systems you mentioned is anybodys guess, The americans will say it wont stand a chance and the the people who dont like them/ prefer the east/etc etc will say it will get through easily.

Of course any analysis is entriely subjective due to the highly secretive nature of both Iranian Ballistic missile and western anti-missile systems, not mention the issue of the ‘fog of war’.

Generally in their conduct of wars the US is very good. There will always be exceptions, such as Abu Ghraib or the Mai Lai massacre but these can usually be attributed to the faliure of command structures or simply poor behaviour of troops under stress. Very rarely does one see a policy decision taken that includes ‘barbaric acts’. On the other hand if you look at conduct during the second world war, most notably the RAF’s systematic destruction of German Citys, the Wermacht and SS conduct on the eastern front etc etc, of course that was a conflict very different in magnitude to the ones we have seen since 1945, but the point is that the US is actually very restrained in its use of violence when one considers what it has the potential to do.

The idea that any Indian F-16’s are some how going to be amazing special super examples just isnt the case. The Block-70 designation is just a marketing ploy and as of now there are very few systems newer than what is on the Block-60 that could be put on new build models.
Equally the idea that India is somehow going to be able to fit whatever it wants from where ever wants on any US aircraft is just as absurd. The Americans wont let Russian or French systems anywhere near its aircraft, it would be very surprising if they even allow Indian origin systems to be installed.

The way I see it if the Islamic world wants a Holy war simply becouse the west is sufficiently civilised to develop democratic systems of government, high standards of living, equality for all, and an understanding that religion is simply a form of ignorance, then let them get on with it. But the terrorists and all those who support them need to realise that the people they are fighting have the ability to make the middle east dissapear in a matter of minutes.

If that was the case, why didnt the US just put the Nuclear deal on hold until after the MRCA selection process was complete, just to be on the safe side?

I have occasionaly wondered what would happen if the US and its allies adopted a policy of massive retaliation, for instance, suicide bombers blow up a train in the US and a Trident is fired at a major Islamic city. A roadside bomb kills an American soldier in Iraq, so the entire population of the nearest village is slaugtered. Obviously Highly unpopular Internationally but I could see it having an impact.

bichito, At least one of those Phazotron radars and probably the other as well are PESA not AESA. They are the Zhuk-MFE for the Mig-29 (has apparently undertaken flight tests on a mig-29) and the other is probably the Zhuk-MFSE (Flight tested on the Su-33KUB)

Great news about the Typhoon CAESAR radar, looks like the Typhoon AESA radar development is ahead of the Rafale after all.

My instinct says that the first one is probably Russian, the pod behind the first one looks similar to sapsan, as used by the Su-30MK2.

I dont think it would take to much to add the likes of EOTS and the laser systems to the F-22. Isnt there space reserved for an IRST that could be utilised?

The difference is about 3000lbs of thrust. Obviously there would be a logistical impact but I was wondering what the effect would be on the aircraft itself?

Or whos to say that the Bug pilot didnt just get lucky, the Raptor made a mistake, no aircraft or pilot is invincible. But it goes with out saying that some are better than others.

I was under the impression that an Il-76 based Phalcon would have one large bulge forward and one aft, similar to the 707, rather than a dish?
