The biggest problem Britain has is that it tries to punch above its weight. Vast somes of money are spent keeping troops and equipment in warzones all over the world so that Tony Blair can cayy on thinking he is the most important person in the world. Yet at the same time he refuses to cough up the money to do this.
Britain is faced with a stark choice, either scale back operations or increase spending.
The british operate apches at sea, why not the americans?
Yes but as long as the budget is under constraints, sacrifices have to be made. US air power is the same as any other country only on a larger and more capable scale. it faces similar problems.
To be honest I realy dont think that any future IAF mirage needs any of this, just the addition of a FLIR (from sagem) would be sufficient and it would keep the french happy.
Thanks puppet, the ROSE 3 is certainly a contender for the ultimate mirage 3/5/50 variant.
I personally think that the Victor was the best looking V bomber, I have a real weakness for that plane
There seems to be a belief (and I tend to agree) that India has reached a Geopolitical position whereby it would be unlikely for it to have sanctions imposed upon it if a foreighn power launched an unprovoked attack.
Another Issue I have been told about is a budgetery one, the IAF and Indian government in general are keen on keeping this programme on within budget, thus they would like to avoid the introduction of large numbers of new systems, and the Mig offers greater commonality with the flanker force.
Although it has not been suggested to me ,I wonder whether the offer of advanced F16s to pakistan has refocused India on a air-air role, and although the Migs superiority over the Mirage in this arena is questionable, it can carry more AAM’s and with the possible future addition of an Irbis 29 it would be greatly enhanced.
Obviously this could all change and the Mirage could be procured, we all know how fluid defence procurement can be.
The M2K9 will be far from tottaly outdated in 2010, it will be by 2040, probably but that is why you have mid life upgrades.
To be honest the Mirage is already a well loaded attacker and the IAF has the Su30MKI for the heavy loads.
Like others have said, if you want all the things you are suggesting just buy the Rafale, it would probably work out cheaper.
The M53-PX3 is a general upgrade available ultimately to all, not just India.
From what I have been told, those who are in the position of choosing Indias next fighter are leaning torward the Mig29M/M2 apparently 2 engines are favourved and the codevelopment work on Irbis radar could be expanded to produce a version for the the Mig.
So Rick, would you like to enlighten us as to what these problems are? Seeing as you seem to know everything about one of the most secretive military projects in china if not the world.
I have to say that this vessel (although it is only a model) does look to be quite stealthy, in fact I would say more so than the Talwar’s.
I think this would make a very good sea control asset (especially if it got VL Stil). I wonder whether china may be a target nation, she already operates 2 956’s so that might explain the designation.
Does anybody have any info on the latest Russian shipboard Sonar and and Radar equipment?
Which just shows that there will never be an operational flatpack, just bits of it in other aircraft.
Basically something is happening in areas like area 52, but what exactly is unknown.
Someone did post the official specs from NIIP’s website in another thread.
I think the biggest disadvantage the Typhoon has when it comes to marketing at the moment, is that alot of the features that are suggested for the future (TVC, AMSAR, CFT’s etc) is that they have yet to be fully intergrated and excepted for the aircrfaft, and many of the governments involed in the project have a habit of cuttin defence spending, with duch projects being a prime target. Knowbody wants to be stuck with an aircraft for which they have to pay all the development cost in order to get the full potential.
