There is a growing sense that Attack helicopters are becoming less and less necessary, particuarly as conventional aircraft become better and better at close air support,(ie Eurofighter can carry 18 Brimstone, not to mention various other PGM’s)
The Attack helicopters other advantage of being able stay hidden by staying low is also being eroded by stealth technology on fighters and by increasingly advanced ground and air based radar and missile technology.
Even the Attack helicopters ability to provide very close precision air support is being taken by fighters that are now carrying advanced targetting pods, aswell as UAV’s that are providing the Helicopters reconnaisance capability.
Well, pilatus my ultimate fulcrum has the same type of radar as my ultimate flanker (Zhuk MFE/MFSE) and both have TVC, and both carry the same weapons, so as you say in a straight fight it would probably come down to pilot skill, the Fulcrum may be slightly better at WVR and the Flanker at BVR but these differences would likely only be marginal.
Does anybody know what differences there would be between the the F15K and the proposed F15T or is it just the name?
If you are going to do that you might aswell just go the whole way, and get a Flanker.
I think what it is trying to say is that the Radars max detection range is not less than 120-140km, thus that figure being the upper limit.
It would be rather stupid to have a radar that cannot detect a target at a range of less than 120-140km.
From what I have heard of Russian companys ideas of surface targets, it probably refers to targets with RCS of upto 1000m2.
It seems that the Phazotron Zhuk MSFE is superior to the Bars in terms of simultaneous tracking and engaging capability, but I dont know about the range of the MSFE???
Thanks for the NIIP link cru, I have been looking for that site for ages.
How did you get that info in english, I can only see it in russian. I am very interested in the below. any info?
“ADYUTANT” Radio-Electronic System with “EPOLET” Phased Array
How do the EW systems stack up? I know that Israel is very good at making such things but at the same time the system on the Block 60 looks awesome.
Also, does anybody know how long it will be before the EL-2052 radar will be ready for sale/operation???
I realy do hate the people in the UK who say that we should cancel part pf the Typhoon order becouse the Typhoon cant perform the roles it needs to on the modern battlefield (ie a2g) when the Typhoon is multirole, in fact very good at A2G
Israel has already said that is does not need the Raptor, Australia has settled on an all JSF future and japan is slashing its airforce budget to the extent that I very much doubt it could afford the Raptor. I realy cant see any export prospects for the Raptor within the next ten years.
I cant wait to see it with Derby!!!
I never suggested that China wont be able to push Europe around, but Europe does not try to push china around.
China may yhave challenges, but it will almost certainly become a bigger economic power than the US.
It realy depends on what sought of EU you want. The problem is that all the EU states want a different one. Europe, and ultimately America needs to realise that the centre of Gravity is shifting east to asia.
I realy dont think that the US needs to keep Europe divided, it is perfectly capable of doing that itself, as resent events have shown. The US should worry about the fact that by 2050 it will be China that has the largest economy in the world.
Errrr Sferrin, costs for the Raptor are huge, massive in fact. (read the latest AFM, there is a very good article). The US defence budget is under very serious pressure (as is the entire US budget). Do you see a role the Raptor could have performed in any conflict in which the US has taken part realy since the end of the cold war?
I realy like the Raptor and at its Job it is the best around, but it is very very very expensive and its mission is not as important as it once was.
