No you didn’t see any videos of any Su-27s is what you mean, lots of sources reported that Flankers were flying over Tskhinvali to maintain air superiority.

You had better start posting them then.

Read similar story (except the execution) during the conflict in the different threads that ACIG.org formed to cover the conflict…

So you have at least two sources now!.

I have seen no evidence that Su-27’s were used but it is not inconceivable. I was under the impression that the Georgians only had one Scorpion anyway and that was a prototype?

hears one from the 10.10.08 not any better

Scrap metal has gotten expensive these days!:D

The tag line for that picture should be ‘how not to procure major warships’.;)

I’m not even going to bother replying to your non-sense piece by piece. Redirecting merely meant sending it to specifically watch Faina now, versus just patrol the area. This isn’t something you comprehend though. Star’s post just confirms your lack of knowledge on the matter – I mean why oh WHY did the Pacific Fleet have this area, and not the Black Sea Fleet, back in the mighty Soviet days? Hmm! Guess the other fleets were out of commission! What stupidity.

    Goodbye.

In other words you know you are wrong, ave been proven wrong but a lack the maturity prevents you from admitting it.

Yes, it performs its limited intended role of the 80’s.
Upgrades seems to be in great danger because of the cost of the airplane even if it sells in great numbers.

From the pov of the possibilities, the Eurofighter cannot come close to those available with the Rafale.

Being kicked out of any competition based on technical values is enough I think.

Your nonsense is not worthy of a response.

Or just a change in operating procedures by the navies offshore, & a resultant dramatic reduction in life expectancy of pirates . . . .

    …and fishermen.;)

Yet, has either example lived up to the level of Superiority intend vs the Flanker???? (i.e. Su-35)

Well seeing as the Su-35 currently only exists as two prototypes that are a long way from completing their flight tests the answer has to be yes.:D

It can’t be redirected. It was going there anyway which is the whole point. 😀

So why did you use the word redirected?

That’s the reason this specific ship IS going there, it was supposed to be deployed there for whatever reasons the Navy wanted it to be.

No because it was the only ocean going ship available.

Prove it. Especially after you have a close look at the Black Sea Fleet and figure out that the ships there aren’t really security oriented.

What? All navy ships are security orientated, thats the purpose of a navy…

Why didn’t they just send Pyotr there? It was in the med. . .

Because she was already tasked with the Venezuela cruise along with the Chebanenko.

Neustrashimy is fairly multi-purpose armament wise.

No it is a specially designed ASW frigate and if anything is less multi-role than the Moskva.

That would make people look twice, also sounds like it would be too AAW biased to ever go through, though I think SAMPSON/S1850M should be the base standard on all new RN ships, I doubt anything other than dedicated air defence vessels will get a missile like the aster 30

    Note the word fantasy.

I though that was now going to be the later block aster 30s?

Could well be but the whole point of the 45 was BMD, if they are putting that capability in an Aster 30 Block 2 then same difference. MBDA is claimed to be doing just that and with longer range to boot.

It still leaves me fantasising about a follow on RN destroyer based on the F5 frigate design with the Sampson Zenith variant with 96 A70 cells loaded with CAMM and Aster-30 Block-2s.

Commercialy speaking, it’s not a flop.
From a technical aspect, it’s nearly a total failure.

Hardly, it performs its intended role, and is being upgraded to perform others. If the Typhoon is a technical failure then so is the Rafale.

Nope, they have bought both, but so far only in limited numbers, perhaps just stop gap units, as for the VLS cells, I’ve been told that 72 A70 cells is not impossible in the current VLS nest, but that may change if the new 155mm gun comes in.

Oh, yes, Aster 45, is that bit of vaporware still getting attention?

The 72 figure dependent on gun has been on Beedalls excellent site for years. At the NATO summit a few months ago France said that they would develop a BMD capable Aster variant.

Already going to Somalia, but NOT for the Faina? Possibly, either way, it was going to Africa, so in some way, it WAS “redirected”.

Why would the Russians send a ship to protect a Ukrainian ship carrying a Ukrainian cargo to Kenya, and dont talk about the six Russian crew on board. How could a ship being sent to the horn of Africa be redirected to the horn of Africa?

I’m saying again, it doesn’t matter if they sent a Pacific fleet ship.

    It really does.

There is absolutely NO correlation between operational status and what you send. What stupidity is this? It’s not like they need Neustrashimy to defend the Baltic, and if she was slated for overseas deployment earlier, for example, then she was going to get deployed there anyway.

That is one of the most ignorant things i have ever seen posted on this forum. You can only send ships on deployment that are ready, Neustrashimy was the closest ship that was in the correct state.

The Black Sea Fleet is either on hold in case of another Georgian fiasco, or more likely, they don’t think they want to send the Slava cruiser flagship or Smetlivy ASW ship there (pirates don’t have subs, I don’t think ), and the Moskit armed corvettes aren’t exactly what you need either.

If Somali Pirates dont have subs why did Russia send an ASW frigate? The black sea fleet is not on hold, it scurried back to port at the first opportunity.

“Also of interest is the sonic devise used to defend a cruise liner a while back.”

I disagree 100%. Non lethal weapons let the pirates live to try again.

One of the main problems is that ships are too slow to respond to emergency calls. When an emergency call comes in and your ship can only do 30 knots the pirates are long gone before you can respond. Private military contractors flying helicopters armed with 7.62mm gatling guns, 12.7mm machine guns, 20mm-30mm cannons or rocket launchers (missiles would be overkill) would make any pirate break off an attack and it would also free up enough time for other ships to respond to the scene. The main problem would be basing the helicopters close enough to make a difference. Would you try to base them on the coast of Somalia or would you try to make them ship based. Would this ship be a military vessel or a modified commercial vessel? Would you have enough supplies to have the ship stay on location long enough to make a difference? Maybe the best idea would be some sort of modified offshore oil rig where the helicopters, pilots and supplies can be based.

Dude, if they cant make any money they will stop coming, pretty simple really, piracy is all about economics. As for helicopters, well you find a safe basing area in Somalia. Frankly let the shipping companies man up and deal with it.

The problem with randomly swatting boats with helicopters is that it is impossible to know what is a fishing boat and what is a pirate boat, they dont fly the skull and cross bones.
