My absolute all time favourite is where a thief breaks into VM’s car, nicks his radio, and then has the temerity to phone up and ask VM if he has the operating manual…

I have just purchased an electric toothbrush. It came in a box big enough to contain a chain saw. Not only that, when I got the outer wrapping off and the box open, I was stunned at the amount of packing inside. I actually said “I don”t bloody believe it” How many trees were sacrificed to make this simple item appear to be worth 30 pounds……..

Anson in background?
Lovely photo’s as usual. G-AKIF is recently included in the marvellous BBC series “Britain from above” though in a dark blue colour scheme. Some nice air to air over Oxford. Other a/c in this excellent series too, including Typhoon.
Don’t shoot!
These photos bring back so many memories.Actually refuelled same Mach trainer at Gutersloh and it was a frequent visitor. David, have any details about
the excellent photographer, the late Gerald Lawrance, been released? I think we all owe him a tremendous vote of thanks for keeping such a fine photographic record of aircraft of all types when these aircraft were operational and such a consuming interest to most of us geriatrics. Many thanks too to Tony Clarke for scanning and digitising and to your goodself for posting all these wonderful images.
Marvellous photos. Loved the Avanti, my favourite too. I’m fairly sure that
an Avanti featured in the movie Salt that I watched last evening?
Linc, you are perfectly correct. I used to find the Goons and Dick Barton especially good. Listening to old recordings of the Goons not so funny anymore.
Lots of bollickings for not doing my homework at that time though. Todays so called comedians I find unfunny too. Swearing and references to sexual acts seem to be the norm.
Liked Round the Horn and Life with the Lyons too. Rather corny today of course.
Are the Archers still on?

hi David,
First two photos were most certainly Gatwick. The year was likely 1953. They were refurbished by Airwork General Trading and sold abroad to Syria and Rhodesia. Airwork refurbished over 100 spitfires during the early 50’s. I have a complete list of serials someplace written down during my working days with Airwork.
There is an excellent post by antoni on this site dated August 16th, 2008 under the title Syrian Spitfire Mk 22 photo’s (old thread) which gives more info.
These pics certainly brought back memories,,,many thanks for posting!
