It cost somebody £16000 and I thought flying was expensive!
Usual “I could do better” response. I assume this was made for a South African audience to enlighten them on their input. I don’t think it was intended to be a definitive history of the conflict but just one aspect of it and as such it worked for me.
G-INFO has it registered to a company called Aero Lease at Farnborough if that’s any help.
Great stuff. It’s always surprises me how many warbirds have passed through Duxford in the hands of the various collectors. More please.
Thanks for the “heads-up” on this one. Some really good footage of Gladiators in there.
With Ray Hanna leading them. Now that was special.
Moggy, just to round off the story on the “new” RV-4 at our strip, it is G-BOHW, newly registered to a chap in Fowlmere.
Without wishing to turn this into a “birders/twitchers” thread, what was the interceptor that chased off the kite? A Royston Crow perhaps? I live on the Herts/Cambs/Beds border and have seen a pair of kites occasionally. Perhaps they were Bruce’s lot mentioned in an earlier post.
Re the “invasion striped” RV-4, I think a sale had, or was about to, take place when I saw it on Saturday and if it proceeds it will be based at Top Farm near Royston.
Hi Moggy, I’ll pass the gen on to my chum about the canopies. Thanks for that. Strangely enough the RV-4 he was looking at was the one that was on the aircraft sales site “AFORS” recently. Even stranger it turned up with it’s new owner at our strip on Saturday. It’s the one in “American” markings with invasion stripes which does make it look (a bit) like a mini-P51
Tough luck Moggy but you walked, which is the main thing. I’ve taken on board your “tighten the straps” lesson and I could hardly breathe when I took off yesterday. However I do have a question. A pal of mine was thinking of buying an RV4 and got as far as trying one out but couldn’t get comfortable, he’s 6ft 2ins, and with the canopy closed his head was flush with it before he put his headset on. He and the owner discussed taking the seat out and sitting on the floor on a Dynofoam cushion and here comes the question. Looking at the photograph of ‘NADZ it looks as though the undercarriage splayed out. Did the floor pan under the cockpit hit the ground with any force during the landing? If it did I guess it puts paid to actually sitting on the floor. I hope this doesn’t seem like a daft question.
Thanks TT. Seems reasonable to me especially with the “fog of war” that was doing the rounds at the time.
Probably a daft question but why do the fuselage roundels have a different proportion on the two aircraft?
Some nice shots there and I like the one with the two Airtourers facing the camera. I hope to be at Fenland but I’m not sure about the others. I guess we’ll see on the day.
Cheers

Attacking the Tirpitz
I thought last night’s programme on Channel 4 about the bombing of the Tirpitz was very well done. The shots of the Lancasters on the actual raid were really interesting and they would have provided an excellent target for the Bardefoss Bf 109s. The fact that a German officer delayed the information to the squadron on purpose was new to me and added interest to the whole programme The fact that they managed two direct hits was amazing when the general bombing accuracy was still pretty poor at that stage of the war.`
