Is G-VETA in external storage? Shame if it is, it always looks special in the all-black colour scheme.
Red Bull and Jaegermeister? Very odd. I thought J’meister was a hangover cure but I suppose the mixture could be a modern equivalent of taking “downers” and “uppers” which I’m reliably informed has happened in the past. Is it true that the magic ingredient in Red Bull costs about 1.5 pence per can? No wonder they can afford all the sponsorship. And let’s not get too “anti” their colour schemes as I reckon they’re going to soon find out just how much cash it takes to run a Formula One team and that might just suck back all the air show aircraft sponsorship. When did an airshow broadcast worldwide on a Sunday afternoon for example?
Many thanks, I’ll look forward to that.
Crikey that was quick Mike. Any idea of a source for the remaindered copies please?
On which subject, did “Aircraft for Fun” ever get released in the Putnams History of Aircraft series?
I’d be pleased to stop the politics but you wanted to expel the UK. Surely you wouldn’t expect the UK to sit back and take that sort of flak from a country which seems to have abandoned it’s defensive capability and has to rely on others to do the job. Stones and glasshouses spring to mind. And I believe the UK is one of the most reliable payers in to the UN funds. Anybody got the figures for Iraq?
This is getting better. I see Dave Homewood wants the US and the UK to be expelled from the UN. And just who is going to defend NZ when push comes to shove in that area. You can’t defend yourselves as you’ve binned your Air Force and I’m sure the Ozzies won’t have a lot of spare capacity to look after you. Good luck in that case!
By the way has anybody got any shots taken in the Baghdad Air and Space Museum. I hear there is a beautifully rebuilt Sea Fury there just waiting for some 130 Avgas for it’s Centaurus and then srp can fly it away. I wish.
David I’ve reviewed my opinion and I think “We won, they lost” still stands. It’s a different war now against mainly imported insurgents so the goal posts have moved. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to do business in the Middle East but I’m not sure if there is a word for “ethics” in the Arabic business dictionary. “To the victor the spoils” still seems good to me.
We won, they lost. Tough but life’s like that. And they don’t appear to museum standard restorations do they!
Albert, I think the choice of Norwegian colours was accompanied by some folding money, generated by a Norwegian TV movie, which the Shuttleworth needed at the time. I’m sure one of the SVAS members can give you chapter and verse so if the numbers come up on Saturday night you could contibute to a restoration to RAF colours?
The fact remains that a Hunter, whether it’s Danish or not, can be the key feature of a small collection and suggesting that it should go back to Denmark is patronising at best. I am intrigued as to what “bit” you have done.
As long,I suppose, it didn’t form the centre-piece of your collection David? Good of you to be so generous with other people’s kit.
So Albert and Mark, can we assume you’ll be heading up the A17, paint brushes in hand, to correct the “mistakes”. Come on guys, at least they are making a go of preserving the airframe.
Only guessing but is the Thud the one that’s now a “kit of parts” at Duxford?
I’m not absolutely certain but I believe provision has been made in the AirSpace extension to screen off an area for re-sprays like the ones you mention. Whether they can do this during the construction phase I don’t know but you are absolutely correct in that some of the larger airframes need some work.
