Excellent pics Blue_2.. thanks for sharing them. Are there any names on the back of the Python Lanc photos by any chance.?
Rob.
Evening all,
quick post because I’m just on me way to the pub 😀
On the head-on Python shot-
L-R i presume- Me(?), Harry Phelps, Stan Brown, Bill Todd, Jim Hartley, Ernie Leek.
On the shot under the Port Python install-
Me(?), Ernie Leek, Sam Brown, Bill Todd, Harry Phelps, Jim Hartley.
Would love to know who ‘Me’ is, he doesn’t identify himself in any of the shots…
If anyone’s interested let me know and I’ll do the Canberra ones too.
I think it’s the B-88 / Y.B.1 WB797, with the Double Mamba engine.
Just looking closely at the original photo it is serialled WB797. Give that man the coconut!
Thanks, already had the serial from the many other pics I’ve got, not the exact date though. As well as the shots of it with the test crew in front of it I’ve a beauty of it airborne I meant to post, will do when I get chance. Anyone know why it crashed?
There are no names on the photo showing 3 chaps stood in front of the Sapphire Canberra, but the other shot I’ve posted the back reads-
‘Me’ (Still want to know who Me is…), Ken Jordon, Norman Lee, —- Robinson.
Pageno1, thanks for the extra details on the Blackburn. It and the Wyvern (VW868) are both captioned as being flown by a chap by the name of Tom Prickett by the way…
‘Sorry everyone, the steelwork was found to be too badly corroded to save. So we trashed the lot.’ Anyone care to wager on a different outcome? 😡
What a waste, suspect its small bits of Wyvern now sadly…:(
The Canberra shots, there’s about another 6 of them, show different groups of people in front of the a/c. I didn’t post them all because they all look fairly similar. I’ll look through the captions for that name when I’ve a sec and let you know.
Thanks John, not got the book, I’ll have to hunt a copy out
Wow!
What a project, nice to see for me, living in proper Halibag Country (East Yorks.)! Keep posting updates and keep up the great work; I’ll be following this one 😀
How likely is it that it’ll actually be worth me trekking down the 1079 for… Hmmm…
Ooh yes please! :diablo:
I seem to recall a Starfighter visible at very low tide off Flamborough Head for a few years, not sure if its still there in any meaningful form though. A chap I used to work for earned his living fishing Bridlington bay up to about 20 years ago, knew where loads of wrecks were including aircraft. Doubt there’ll be much left now, given the bits of aluminium that can be found on the beach after a good storm…
What a thread. And what a project! Can’t wait to hear news of her being fired up 😀
Fair enough- maybe I leaped before I looked! 🙂
You’d have to fill in the ‘ole underneath for the radar too!
…Followed by a formation of Hampden, Whitley, Wimpey ideally!
Only guess – because there are no complete MK1’s left??
Jon
True, just seems a strange idea to me. Given that the II’s are historic airframes in their own right, why convert one into something it ain’t?
…..eh….?
Looks like a Gannet with a go faster stripe and (nearly) as ugly:eek:
Baz
Hmmm…Looks like the lovechild of the Wyvern and Gannet…:D
