Halifax, Stirling, Whitley, basically any of the lesser-known workhorses of bomber command. They and their crews can never have enough recognition.

Surely the opening ceremony is partially about showing off the history and heritage of the hosting country too? In which case the Vulcan has a place as a reminder of when this country could actually build cutting edge (for the time) aircraft ‘in-house’? As Joey suggests I reckon that to most Joe Q. Public its just a big, noisy, powerful beast of a machine, rather than a nuclear weapon…

Had a Hunter one plus some instruments, gave them to Fort Paull to go in ‘509 when they rescued it after the Hull chavs ransacked it while it was outside Humbrol. They were only gathering dust at mine and should hopefully prove useful to 509, still sometimes kinda wish I’d kept them though…:(

    Some more…

Several of the Sapphire Canberra at Farnborough In 1954, caption on the back of the 3rd from left reads”awaiting visit from the Duke of Edinburgh; His comment ‘not a lot of room is there?'”
A couple of its crash at Bitteswell, dated Nov. 1954
Some of Farnborough ’54, lots of interesting machines, including The DH110 which crashed hours after the shot was taken.
A poorly Gannet at Bitteswell dated 1958.
Group photo at Bitteswell, June ’59. The unit apparently closed that September.
    Wyvern 🙂
And JP XD694 dated April ’56.

    Hope you all like.

Cheers. Best of luck with getting the doors and sorting her; sure you’ll be busily exploring options and already thought of it but is it worth asking about the ones off 603?

Went past the other day, good to see you’ve got her back down in one piece. How badly crunched is the tailcone?

Does say big Mamba test bed on the back of the Gannet shot. Brownie points your way!

To see the 110 (and Javelin and various other nice machines) zoom right in on the second small photo down on the right of the second posting. It’s there trust me!
