Watched Mangel Pandey last night, its about the Indians first war of independence. A fine film with English Subtitles.

You know, that is one of the most amusing elements of fora such as these. There are people who frequent these fora, who are, not to overegg the pudding, some of the finest engineers around. It is largely thanks to their efforts that we have the opportunity to see some of the most magnificent aircraft in existence. Now, some of these members are, understandably and necessarily “in the know” and for some unknown reason they absolutely revel in flaunting that they know more than the average enthusiast. This is why James, you get crass answers to perfectly civil questions. It amuses them to think they can assume an air of superiority.
I’ve found it best not to question them because unless you are deemed to be of a similar status in life to them your question will be treated with contempt. The overwhelming air of superiority they assume may give them comfort and security, you know, rather like a child’s dummy.
In essence, most of the answers you will receive will be patronising, confusing, amusing and occasionally very enlightening or any or all of the above to some degree.
As for Legends? It is apparently not the done thing to speculate what will be there until after the event.
All joking aside, we really do owe them a huge vote of thanks for their efforts.

Ok an argument that could do loops forever, my final view on this subject, 4 x 4 vehicles have a place. 1. Farms 2. Fields 3. Racing 4. Rescue. Not central London .

And why not?
The builders, plumbers, bricklayers, electricians who constructed the house have all been paid and used that money to the benefit of their own families.
The local Curry’s or Comet have made a margin on the 30″ television which has supported the families of the staff who are far better employed than claiming dole.. The retailer had paid business rates that subsidise services for the local community. The profit is paid out as dividends to the shareholders, the bulk of whom are pension funds that will support people in their old age.
I really don’t see your point

I couldn’t be bothered trawling all through this thread so I’ll chuck my two penn’orth in here. I reckon you could get 80% of 4X4s off the road if the prospective purchaser had to justify their need for said vehicle.
I strongly agree with this view.

A rather extreme view.

That was Jeremy Clarkson and he was following the theory that if everyone was forced to drive a less-safe car driving standards would improve measurably. The point was that this would be a darwinian process whereby the bad drivers would get found out and, probably, killed.
The side issue he neatly avoided, of course, would be the equal loss of life amongst pedestrians and ‘safe’ drivers whilst the dangerous element purged themselves spectacularly from society.
By the sticks I mean muddy fields and wet, slippery, gravelly slipways i.e terrain that an average family car would have an issue with. Your assumption that ‘most of these drivers’ have never used their vehicles 4WD features is entirely baseless…the heavy snow we had earlier this year saw all sorts of people utilising their 4×4’s for exactly the purpose they were intended. There was a magnificent effort from the parents in my eldests school (a small secondary in rural Oxfordshire) that saw parents with ‘Chelsea Tractors’ pulling duty getting kids to and from school before the snow closed it.
You may say thats a ‘one off’ and perhaps it is…but it was a damn good job they were there!
Heavy SNOW now how deep was that snow ? Dont see the Nords or Finns having a 4 X 4 frenzy ! 10 or 15 cm a joke.
