Ian . I’m useless with this PC malarky ( notice the edit bit on this message , I tried to post the shortcut but I failed .
Just type PFA into Google , the very first result takes you to the PFA website and there’s a link to a separate section for the NPPL, you can do the NPPL in 32 hours with only the same health requirements as your driving licence .
Tayside Aviation are doing a good deal right now – 35hrs flight time , exams ,etc for £3500 , all for their 35th anniversary.

Anybody who thinks that aviation is way too expensive should have a look at the new NPPL on the PFA website , it basically halfs the cost of the old PPL(a) , anybody who just wants to potter over your local area on nice days can now do this without it being excessively expensive . Some aeroplanes are relatively easy and inexpensive to build , look at the Evans VP-1 , Druine Turbulent etc .
Why are aeroplanes always referred to as “she” ???

Thanks for the invite, but i’m not sure it’s possible – i’ll look into it though, significant other would like to come to if it’s possible, but it’s a question of time off work around the weekend as well as funds. She’s a big fan of Blenheims and Vulcans.

If we can’t make it and don’t get any pics – would be delighted to host any that people would like on the web but don’t have their own site or somewhere else they go. (Goes for any museum too)

Before i forget. If anyone has a club/society/website they would like listed – drop me a line and it will go in the links section of the new version of Museum-Explorer which is about a month away.

    Cheers [/QUOTE

Be good if you can make it Sibs , let us put a face to the name !!! , just explain to the good lady that she can have the first go in the Vulcan and the Bolingbroke/Blenheim , even if you could nip up for just one of the days , my good lady will be there too . It will probably be the last chance to get some shots of LA198 before she goe’s to Kelvingrove.

At the risk of seeming flippant (g) to the best of my knowledge, neither tanks or MTBs generally cruise around at 20,000 feet, thus making superchargers superfluous.

I believe that’s the only major difference between a Meteor and Merlin but I’m quite prepared to be told I’m wrong.
Think the power output of a Meteor’s quoted at 600hp, come to think of it.
My Dad would have been a good one to ask, Tank Regiment just post-war, but unfortunately he’s no longer available for questioning.

Your absolutely bang on , the Merlin has a big supercharger bolted on the back of it , the Meteor doesn’t – I never noticed that before !! , the Meteor looks much more compact and neat .

I seem to remember the company being sued for the death of a well known pilot. Who’s name escapes me.

It was’nt them who built the engine which threw a rod leading to the engine seizure which resulted in the sad loss of Charles Church ?? was it .
The guy in Falkirk , Keith , has a Merlin on a test stand he runs it up a few times a year and he has a Meteor on a rig which sits in his service area , it has been run up occasionally too . Both are immaculate , his whole collection is superb.

However I am in first hand contact with the family of one of them, and his daughter was quite keen to discover if he was still with his mount.

I can understand that being a sensitive subject , maybe best left alone .
Be nice to see one scratch built , along the same lines of the recently unveiled Boulton Paul Defiant , using some original components maybe ?? , wonder if the gentleman who has the remains of the one from Scotland has any plans for it ??
