I havent heard Birmingham on the cards yet, right now 9W is looking to buy slots at LHR. Although, yes i will not be surprised at all to see a direct flight into Birmingham from places like Amritsar and Delhi.
Yes was signed in 2006… a good present from 9W. 🙂 . They are very actively looking for 777/330 pilots these days with proposed flights now to places like San Francisco (via Shanghai), J’bourg, Nairobi etc.
Seasons Greetings to all! 🙂
heh too many VB’s for the lad.
The Qantas sale illustrates how little “the market” has learned from other airline takeovers…. One can but hope that our Treasurer is able to recognise the national interest considerations in ensuring that Qantas does not go down the same path as Ansett….. Former Ansett workers have still not received their full entitlements and New Zealand taxpayers were forced to bail out their own national carrier after Air New Zealand’s failure as a private venture…..
Qantas is not like just any other business…. it’s the national carrier of one of the world’s most geographically isolated countries…. It’s obvious that the huge debt burden required for the takeover will have to be serviced by means other than operating the airline with a view to its long-term viability…. It’s as obvious as the kangaroo on the tail.
true to all the points above… but i think the time has long gone when national pride would score more over extra $$$. But yes hopefully the treasurer and everyone involved will keep Ansett in mind.
I highly doubt that in-flight service will be the main criteria that will get affected here. What the major thing that might get disrupted is ground handeling. I highly doubt Macquarie intends to hold the position that they will inquire from Qantas, seeing the bank’s previous track records on acquisitions, they will further see different arms of the airline to different companies. Yes, this may include the in-flight service and catering, but i have a feeling that this particualr section will be left alone, not for the Qantas employees sake but purely for the bank’s sake.
But we will have to see how this deal will go down.
Their international arm goes online in 2007/8.
not necesserily, totally depends on the government if they agree to reduce the minimum domestic time an airline must serve from 5 years to 3 years. It will happen most likely.
I hope this does not mean outsouring to any call centres as if it is the same ones as HSBC, customers will not be happy!
I highly doubt it means customer relations in this case. I would vote for other fields such as software design, consultation etc.
After all that time manufacturing doors for the 320s its good to see Airbus is ready to put in some money into India. Specially after those massive 320 orders by IndiGo etc.
Hopefully it is in colaboration with HAL, will benifit HAL alot.
Read a very good article on JetStar and its wait for the 787s. The airline is literally waiting for the 787s to properly launch there operations, currently fitting the 330s in as replacements. When asked why they chose the 787 the answer was simply ” Boeing was offering a price which was too good to go through”.
Wow…. that is one odd livery.
I personally would not want to sit in a flight that lasts over 8 hours and dont get served properly, would rather pay more for a full fledged service than this. This is possibly the first example of a proper (not counting JetBlue’s pond crossings) long-haul loco venture, and to me as a passenger it would not make for a very pleasent journey, of-course taking into consideration the airline will run like a textbook loco.
And that note on the BBC link on enviornment is quite random it seems.
Airbus to pay India’s Kingfisher 22 mln dlrs for A380 delay

NEW DELHI (AFP) – European manufacturer Airbus (Paris: NL0000235190 – news) has agreed to pay India’s Kingfisher Airlines more than one billion rupees (22 million dollars) for a delay in delivering five A380 superjumbo aircraft.
The airline owned by the UB group, the world’s third largest spirits producer by volume, ordered the aircraft last year.
Airbus on Tuesday announced a one-year delay in the project, its third such announcement.
“Airbus has communicated that they are postponing deliveries of the aircraft and the first aircraft will now be delivered only by 2011,” UB group chairman Vijay Mallya told the Economic Times.
He added that the aircraft manufacturer had offered one billion rupees in compensation, the financial daily said.
It was unclear whether the compensation to Kingfisher (LSE: KGF.L – news) for the A380s would be in the form of discounts or payment, the report said.
Kingfisher is the only Indian carrier of the 16 airlines globally that have placed orders for about 150 A380s.
Although it has not yet won permission to fly on international routes, Kingfisher is drawing up plans for an international debut and plans to use the A380 aircraft on high-density routes such as to the United States.
The orders were placed at the Paris airshow last year where the Bangalore-based carrier signed up for 15 planes — five A380s, five A350s and five A330s in a deal estimated to be worth about three billion dollars.
Airbus’ parent group, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), also said this week that its flagship project, the A350, might be suspended.

SQ likes the A380 , it fills very well into their expansion plans and is the right way to go for them! The a380 will generate a lot of cash for SQ.
10 month delay is just the delay it suffered this time around , in addition to previous delays , infact IIRC the a380 was originally supposed to be making money for Emirates now !! And delivery of 1 aircraft or 2 wont cut it one would imagine that they would need atleast 4 to open up the long range route !
Yes i am aware of that, initial delays on any prototype airliner are always there. But as you mention, this delay is over the delays that have limped the 380 programme before.
SQ seems happy with the A380 yes but do not forget when the last delay was announced SQ was very dissapointed. Similar reactions came from the SQ camp to what EK is expressing today.
Just heard some news about new interior products being unveiled by SQ on October 16th for the A380. SQ still seems to be a bit controlled over there anger on the 380 delat than EK. It is understandable though, 45 aircraft is a massive order and a minimum 10 month delay could cost the airline alot.
Quite a horrific accident. My sympathies to the families of the lost.
Was reading an article by a freelancer who was aboard the legacy. Quite a frightning recollection by him.
