    RE: boeing or airbus

In my opinion it is very childish to compare Boeing with Airbus. They should not be compared on the first place. Both are the giants in there fields are uncomparable as they both make quality jets. Know if you want to compare, compare Boeing or Airbus with Ilyushin.

Saab 2000, that MD 83 was of SAS, that crash land was in June 1998 and also a day after SAS was awarded some best airline award. I was on a KLM B737 at that time passing the crash when our pilot announced “And to your right ladies and gentelman, the airline of the year with no undercarriege”;). And Keltic, yeah Scandinavians are known for there safety records in all fields.

Nice on Keltic, but there are a few Asian airlines who beat all….Emirates, SIA they are the best. Especially Emirates. now as you must be knowing it Jet is going international soon, they are already looking at the B757 for Singapore, UAE and Bangladesh. So we might be having a new quality brand in international routes soon. American airlines dont have such a good reputation with me and in India, people here try to avoid American airlines. European airlines are better and reliable.

    RE: Sri Lankan Airlines

Yes Sri Lankan airline has become very good since Emirates took over. But they already had a fire in there cabin recently in one of the 340s. The airline also won the best south east asian airline award.

DAMN right Keltic, rude behavior is very common on American airlines. I would prefer Virgin, SAS and all for this route.

haha….nice on Paul. Well landing in low visibility is not fun, u might not be knowing but the pilot may be mistakenly landing on a highway. This happened in India once, a Saudi B747 landed on a closed down airfield which was situated damn near the Chennai International runway. Know the problem was that the 747 landed with a bang, after repairs, the problem was how to get this bird out of here. Runway was too short for a bus like this. So they closed a national highway here and towed it to a near by IAF AFB and it took out from there. Recently a Saudi pilot here was charged of reckless flyin, he used to take off darn low.

RE: 747 Classic vs new planes

The Boeing 747 has still a long way to go. Well as the competition is rising, the 747 will have to shut down someday, the A340 is a good example which can gobble up the 747. The 747 sales have gone down 38%(i red it somewhere). The A380 will never take the place of the 747, the 747 is a magnificent aircraft, although i would like to take a ride in the 380, but i would prefer to avoid it, i think the ideal size of a large capacity long-range jet is the 777 or the 340.

Geforce…agreed…but this was an expression to say that the airline is very strict in mentanence and service. I must tell you if you have just one flight on it and you will compare it with all majour airlines in the world. There Business Class is awsome, you are welcomed by a Yellow Rose(it is there trademark thingy), excellent and comfortable seats, amazing food and very nice staff. They are a very safe airline, never had anything rough.

Crusing at Mach .85 or so dosent seems to excite me. I think the A320 flyes almost the same speed according to a book i have of Janes.

    RE: 747-400 versus MD 11 versus A-340

See, the MD-11 is one heck of a aircraft. Good looking, extremely comfortable, its sad that they are being fased out. I think the MD-11 was the best amongst the tri-engined jets. The reason of its not so good doing is that the marketing strategy by boeing for it was almost nil. I think they did not want the MD-11 to pick up, but i dont know why. I sat in a Swissair MD-11 and it was a wonderful flight, and a very succesful freighter. I think Lufthansa really likes the MD-11F.
