At the risk of sounding rude, I agree with such rules by airlines. My flight last year to LHR on 9W was horrific just because the gentleman next time was literally spilling over into my seat.

I asked for a seat change and they could not help me because the flight was full in all classes. I ended up walking up and down and sitting in the crew chair for most of the flight.

I personally don’t think it will be a financial issue, MH has a tired long haul fleet and I am sure they would have kept a big bet on the 380 for their fleet expansion.
