Who is going to Legends? Who cares?????

Snapper will be being led round by a goat, EN830 will be wearing combat sandals, GeoffK will be wearing a hungry look as he prowls the burger bars and is you see Arm Waver there you can guarantee at least one of you is in the wrong place…..

There’s a two day airshow this weekend with an unrivalled line up of warbirds, fast jets and historic jets not normally flown over the UK, possibly including the Vulcan and Victor. It’s at Cosford and it’s all just a matter of scale really.

Windswept grey undersides with the occasional hint of azure blue to be seen topsides, but only if you’re quick?

Last night I received a phone call, from Captain Short’s son. Also named Bernard, he was only six years old at the time of his Father’s death, consequently he doesn’t know too much about his Father’s death and service with the ATA and is interested to know more. He would be very grateful for any information we can gather. He is also delighted that I am planning to lay a wreath in his Father’s memory as he is not well enought to consider a journey from his home in Hull to Manchester.

I’ve applied for the aircraft’s Movement and Loss cards and am chasing up other avenues at the moment. If anyone has any ideas how to help please don’t hesitate to let me know.

If we have anyone in the Edenbridge area, the Flight Engineer, Arthur Bird, was buried in Edenbridge Cemetery Extension. I would be most grateful for a photograph of the grave and the name of the newspaper covering that area. Perhaps there might be a report of his death or an obituary? Mybe even a photograph.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to follow this story and for all the help received so far. Mr. Short has also asked me to pass on his thanks to everyone trying to help. I know he is really touched by this.

As for me doing something – well with hunting for the prototype Dove in the Cape Verde Islands and helping to return the BAS Otter from Deception Island on the edge of Antarctica do you feel that I have been lacking in application?

    David.

You have been terribly remiss. Surely you could have done something on your day off? 🙂

With regards to the P111, would the Boulton Paul Heritage Centre be interested in keeping and restoring this aircraft? Even if only on a loan basis? I admit that I know little of the aircraft and therefore its significance fails to inspire me. I suppose that’s a large part of the problem.

The first two are the Emirates A330 and the ATR of Farnair. Nice to see something different from the predominantly white HB-AFF.

The best shot I could get of the White A310
Aurigny ATR. Note the way the aircraft leans and the rudder deflection.
    The Duty Free Baby 737.

A few more to come later, if you can stand it….

No can do for this one. Will be away at the Flying Legends airshow at Duxford meeting up with some good friends from Historic.

Liverpool I would like to go to though. Possibly with side trips to Barton and Hawarden? Does that sound possible Grey? You’re more familiar with the geography than I am. I once did Liverpool, MAN, Hawarden, Barton, EMA, COV and BHX all in one day but that was when I was young and stupid and didn’t realise what speed limits were for.

Now I’m old and stupid I won’t push myself that hard. I’m now a firm believer in the old adage ” better to be a few minutes late in this world than a few years early in the next.”
