As one who has experienced many attacks in your own homeland, might it not be more pertinent for you to question the efficacy of your own intelligence services? How many have died as a result of bombings within Israel? If you think about that question then perhaps the answer to your question regarding British intelligence will be clearer.
It is taking what you perceive to be an inordinate amount of time to recover the bodies for several reasons.
Each ‘target’ is now a crime scene. It seems likely now that these attacks are not suicide bombings.
The conditions within which rescue, recovery and forensic/intelligence teams are working, in three cases, are underground in dark tunnels and in horriffic conditions.
In Britain this whole scenario is managed by civilian services. We do not have soldiers armed to the teeth wandering around the streets. As far as I am aware, our security services do not have the right to arrest people in large numbers on the vaguest of suspicion, or because they are Palestinian and hold them without charge. It seems our legal processes are far different.
I think your question is slightly pointless really. With Israel having one of the allegedly best intelligence services it shows them to be failing on a far larger scale than British intelligence when Israelis have been targeted far more regularly than the British don’t you think?

Should the world also act more strongly against the Israeli bulldozing of Palestinian homes? Or the cold blooded shooting of a young boy caught in a firefight? It is difficult for many in the world to support Israel in condemning atrocities when Israel as a nation is often the perpetrator of atrocities against Palestinians.

kev35It’s a difficult one.
I was vehemently opposed to Sky’s gratuitous coverage of the Firefly crash which was shown repeatedly within an hour of the crash. Were all of Bill Murton and Neil Rix’s family aware of the event by that time? do I ever need to see it again? No. It is enought to know that humanity lost two men and the airshow scene a valuable airframe.
As for events like London and September 11th, their enormity is such that one feels compelled to watch. I didn’t watch a 767 hit one of the towers and think ‘mmm, interesting way to make a firebomb.’ Like the overwhelming majority of people I was horrified, but somehow you can’t turn away.
The use of such images therefore probably does have a value in terms of informing the viewer as to the seriousness of the event. What cannot be justified is the use of such imagery as a way to increase exposure and market share of the media involved.
But then is it all a matter of scale? We have seen the images of the twin towers repeated thousands of times. Obviously the image of the death of a politician by terrorist action (Airey Neave) does not have that same impact at all. Are the images of the eleven soldiers and their horses slaughtered in Hyde Park repeated again and again? Perhaps the Twin Towers will come to be the iconic image of the decade?
Yet we have no real problem on the Historic Forum in looking at the mangled remains of a Heinkel, Halifax or Wellington, even though they are likely to have held the mortal remains of a number of crewmen.
I have to think more about this to reach a conclusion.

For the commercial forum, yes.
Historic regularly have gatherings with over 30 people present. In the past, members have organised presentations by authors (thaks Ashley) while other meets are far less formal. We often bump into each other at airshows. I don’t know how many will be present for the raffle at the Red Lion following the Flying Legends airshow at Duxford on Saturday but I’m sure there’ll be quite a few of us.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated. I can only assume they were forced to fly lower by the prevailing weather conditions which were, after all, pretty horrendous at the time of the flight. The extra workload imposed on the crew by not having a dedicated navigator aboard couldn’t have helped any.

It might be helpful if you could obtain the name of the casualty and check it with the CWGC website. That will then give a clear indication of where the casualty is buried or commemorated.
I can find no regerence to ‘El Russ’ but a regular target for Middle East crews was ELEFSIS in Greece. This was also known as ELEVSIS and ELEUSIS. I know 37 Squadron attacked this target several times. Might that be the subject and cause of some confusion?

A number of people have died, we can only hope the numbers are lower than we fear. People have been injured, some horrendously, others are shocked and traumatised. They have been discharged but due to these events have no way to get home. Surgeons are operating on people on Underground platforms. There are people all over London and the South east whose lives have been changed forever by this. Some children will have lost a parent, people will have lost husbands, wives, partners. For them, this is only the beginning. Policemen and women will be knocking on doors and shattering lives…
Let our thoughts be with them. They are the ones in the front line of this. Not Mr. Rohr in Maine, Comet in Scarborough or me in Walsall.
There will be time enough for debate and recrimination later.
