I don’t understand why a group, who, if I’ve read the link correctly didn’t even own the aircraft, decided to turn it from a perfectly good Vulcan into several hundred boxes of bits without knowing whether they’d ever have the financial resources to put it back together.

And then getting people to repeatedly pledge money to the dream only to have the timeline extended seems irresponsible to me.

In that case, can I, as a buyer of lottery tickets, sell my bit please?

So the money is not in place. I’m wondering whether enough money will ever be raised.

Your glass may be half full xh558tothesky, mine however, is emptying fast as enormous sums of money are being channelled into this project.

I have serious reservations about this aircraft flying ever again. As I’ve said previously, and God forbid it should ever happen, but what if it went down performing a routine or in transit? It would be the end of airshows.

Surely £2.7 million pounds could have found either a) a more worthy type to restore, b)gone toward housing far rarer airframes which are near extinct or c) gone towards an educational project to perpetuate the memories of those who served this Country in time of war and to recording their memories while we still have the chance.

I’m not slagging it off, I just don’t agree with the project. I’m not convinced it is viable commercially, that it would be wise to operate such a complex airframe, and that there aren’t a thousand more deserving projects out there, grass roots individuals and restorers, who wouldn’t have benefitted more from a share of the £2.7 million pounds, some of which I am responsible for.

Can I ask bmi-star if he knows whether Air Force One arrived at the military or civilian side of Frankfurt? It is obvious that the US Government would not pay compensation to Lufthansa for delays caused by the arrival of Air Force One. Does anybody know if departures and arrivals of aircraft from other airlines and indeed other nationalities experienced similar delays.

It all rather reminds me of an old tale, probably apocryphal, about a Captain of a BEA airliner struggling to find the gate after landing at Munich. Becoming somewhat exasperated a pilot of a Lufthansa aircraft tersely enquired whether he had been to Munich before. The somewhat laconic reply was “Yes, I visited one night thirty years ago, but I didn’t stay.”

I don’t particularly like Bush and think that the conduct of the Iraq war was wrong. Yes, a despot was removed from power but he has been replaced with nothing better. I think it possible that the families of over 1,000 Americans killed so far in a war which is no longer a war might feel that their lives of their loved ones, who courageously volunteered to do not what their Country, but what their Government asked them to do, were wasted on the whim of a President with a singular lack of understanding of the world in which he lives.

Korea? Iran? Syria? I wonder where he’ll get Americans killed next.

What’s your favourite item of clothing?

Soft shoes that don’t encourage my feet to fall apart. (Wore a suit and shoes for a meeting a few weeks back and have the ulcer on my heel to prove it. Ahh, the joys of diabetic neuropathy.)

I really haven’t a clue. I’ll suggest Christopher Biggins before some other unkind sole does.

Pastry from a beef and onion pie, mature cheddar cheese and Middleton’s chips.

A dog, preferably a happy and energetic one.

Don’t like quiz programmes as I’m not clever enough but I laugh at Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

The sandwich filling just spoken about and tinned oxtail soup with chocolate mini rolls for dipping purposes.

7) What would be your ideal night out? And with who?

A very dear friend of mine and a place of solitude where we could enjoy a picnic under the stars, with no interference from mobile phones, PC’s or any discussion regarding business, health or the future.
