Saving Private Ryan was an American experience and was an outstanding film, difficult to find fault with and a film I thoroughly enjoy. The Battle of Britain is perhaps a little more, immediate isn’t the right word, for those of us in the UK. And for those of us who are of a certain age it depicted in the best way it possibly could an event which shaped the rest of the war. We have parents and grandparents who were pilots, erks, Home Guard, we saw the veterans at airshows, some among us have been fortunate to meet some of them. Maybe it’s nostalgia but we all know countryside like we see in the film, that same kind of country pub, and of course Duxford. And that is what it was all about. Stopping Hitler and preserving a Nation. We may have screwed things up a bit since then but some of us still realise how big a part the Battle of Britain played in ensuring we had that chance.

I’ve just worked it out, it’s a plot! Fiendishly clever too! R. Weaver (Safe Legal Flying) might not be a 16 year old tyro. He could be a crusty old Captain with so many thousands of hours to his credit he drags his log books around in an ASDA trolley. Having flown a Spitfire on the first thousand bomber raid he was a Captain on Boeing 707’s even before the jet engine was invented. There is a rumour that he was Pontious Pilate’s Private Pilot (Alliteration, Robert, check the dictionary)

So, it’s all been a con, he’s been having us on all along.

Just noticaed that an anagram of R. Weaver is we averr. Averr meaning to state firmly – the truth. See?Everything he says must be right.

I have no desire to be a pilot. The fact that you may have achieved the required standards does not mean that you have the correct attitude and it is your attitude that is your biggest problem. Never mind, you continue to play in your merry old tin pot way and somewhere down the line you will learn how to portray yourself. Hope in the RAF interview you didn’t tell them you wouldn’t be joining if you managed to obtain a pass for your medical. The RAF needs people who want to join, not those who are choosing it as an escape route for their deficencies.
