If they are celebrities then by definition they are open to public scrutiny. Free public appearances? Well, they certainly get enough money from the Civil List to cover their ‘fees.’

Quite true. They do pursue their hobbies. Hunting, Polo, Shooting, Fishing, Adultery….. It is in some cases their pursuit of ‘private interests’ that has ensured the breakdown of marriages.

“The Royals should take their money that their family has earned. And if you read British history, no royal family has had a greater positive impact on a nation than the British Royal Family, so its THEIR MONEY AND PROPERTY that they should take untaxed.”

Please, come on. The Royal Family has in the past been a strong and positive influence, but not any more. During the Second World War the King, George VI, refused to evacuate his family to Canada, He and the Queen Mother were at Buckingham Palace when it was bombed, the Queen Mother said after the bombing “Now I can look the people of the East End in the eye,” those are positive influences. The present lot lack character and humility. Yes, I support a Royal Family, but the generations now in the public eye are making a mockery of it. Windsor Castle had a fire a few years ago. Its restoration was paid for by the British taxpayer, not the Royal Family, yet the public are charged an exorbitant price to visit the place.

As opposed to living off the profits of others? As the Royal Family doesn’t that imply that they should be among the proudest anyway? They should be public servants, not the other way around.

Interesting reasons for the lack of response though.

1 Can’t open the antenna
2 It’s landed in the wrong place
3 Something’s gone wrong with the clock. Where’d they get it from, Ratner’s?
4 something wrong with the software
5 Some kind of incompatibility with the NASA software on the craft in orbit

Anyone considered the fact that it might just be in a million pieces? It’s a shame, a lot of effort went into this. Maybe those Martians just don’t want to be found after all.

Not really sure where my interest came from. But by the time I was seven and went to see the Battle of Britain it was already well established. There was a documentary screened before the film about an airshow and my Dad said I was telling him what every aircraft was. Airfix et al also played their part as did four years in the ATC. I did have a neighbour who told me stories of being at Middle Wallop during the Battle and of diving under a fuel bowser for protection.

Now, it’s all coalesced into this incredible feeling of gratitude towards those who were prepared to risk their lives so I can sit and type this. That’s why most of my interest and the research I do revolves around Rememberance, and, corny as it sounds, the debt that I feel is still owed and will never be repaid. I like the machinery and feel truly priveleged to see the machines which were the instruments of our freedom. A good display from an aircraft can bring a lump to my throat, but it is the meaning and sacrifice behind it which are truly inspiring. It is the Veterans who mean more to me now, and in that I am extremely Honoured to be in contact with a good number from one particular Squadron and to have been entrusted with the correspondence of hundreds of others.

I just wish I knew who planted the seed, so that I could thank them for putting me on a path which has given me a lifetime of enjoyment and given me the greatest and most enduring of friendships.
