    Still no progress then?

Webmaster, could you please let us know whether you are looking into this problem for us? Something else just noticed is that when you edit a post it no longer says ‘edited by…….’ Surely this has to be a forum problem?

    Thanks for your help.

we’ll try again, but not holding out much hope. Convinced now the problem is not at my end.

MMmmmmm. Puzzling and annoying. It’s amazing how gratifying it is to share your pictures with other like-minded individuals across the globe. And you don’t half miss it when you can’t.

Being the optimist that I am, sadly, I don’t believe a Vulcan will ever take to the skies again. As for those that are able to ground run or do fast taxis, are the resources, both financial and logistical, sustainable? I’m fortunate, I have great memories of seeing the last airworty Vulcan in the air, and a four ship scramble back in the 1970’s. I just can’t see it happening again. Not when even the aviation press are questioning aerobatics at airshows.

I seriously question the merits of applying to the Lottery Heritage Fund again to support what I consider to be a lost cause while rarer airframes continue to rot. And it’s not only airframes, it’s the archaeology, the paper ephemera, people’s memories, the Memorialisation of those whose sacrifice ensured there would be a Vulcan, that is in danger of being lost now.

Now comes a rare moment….. I actually agree with David Burke that the longest surviving Vulcan will be the one in Hendon.

I’ll climb back down into me hole now, just give me a minute to get me tin ‘at.

    Webmaster.

It seems there is still a problem, at least affecting some of us. This image was posted successfully last week but certainly won’t go today. Any ideas?

    wannabe pilot.

Just think, you’re not going to forget yesterday are you? A memorable day for the right and wrong reasons. Appalling behaviour from the Police Officer. No doubt he was busy and of course he is right, you are not his responsibility, but he could have been a bit more helpful one would have thought. After all, the Police say if you are in trouble always ask a Policeman.

Onto happier topics. Seems like you got quite a haul there, the Pokemon 747 being a real treat as well as the Jat 737. How many registrations there? Around 200? You’ll have to try to join those of us meeting up on the 18th of September, there’s always safety in numbers.

Glad the spotting part of the day went well for you both.

    Hi, Cooper.

If you are interested in the work of FAC’s in Vietnam try reading a book called ‘Ravens.’ Can’t remember the author but it is largely about FAC’s recruited in Vietnam in very mysterious ways who bought their O-1’s for a dollar from the American Government and flew them to Laos.

Bat-21 is a good film, but I understand that’s all it is, the truth being buried somewhere in the vehicle to promote Danny Glover. Still enjoyed it though.

First ever airshow, must have been about ’74 or ’75. Stepping from the coach into this awesome place on a beautiful summers day. The smell of the castor oil and a first sight of so many precious airframes, wonderment that they actually flew. The afternoon wore on and that wonderful heart-stopping moment when you hear your first Merlin. The sound alone is glorious, yet it is attached to that epitome of grace the Spitfire, and all that goes with it. The realisation that these aircraft weren’t flown just for the sheer enjoyment of flight, that the pilots who flew them bought our freedom with their lives. A lifelong fascination is born.

Then a total change of mood, the Vintage Pair appear as if by magic from behind the trees, a beautiful sight and sound, an image burned deep into my memory, never to be forgotten, yet sadly never to be repeated.

The walk back to the coach, face tingling pleasantly from the sun, neck aching from looking skyward, that tired feeling, the one you get from the satisfaction of having done something worthwhile.

You know I’ve never been back. And now I’m afraid to in case it doesn’t live up to my memories. Shame that…..

    Silly, sentimental old fool.
