Hi, Rick.

I’ve emailed DDevereaux@MGM.com this morning re the release of Battle of Britain on DVD. Here’s what I sent:

Dear Sir/Madam.
I am writing to express my concern over MGM/UA’s failure to release the film Battle of Britain on DVD. This was an immensely important film at the time of its release due to its incredible attention to detail and the determination to portray the Battle in an accurate historical format. I believe this paved the way for many of the films we see today.

The film today has a sound following and is discussed regularly by aviation enthusiats on discussion boards and inevitably the topic turns to when it will be released on DVD. Now is the time for release as there is so much accompanying documentary material which would make an outstanding extras package. Suggestions include the inclusion of the alternative film score by Sir William Walton, the inclusion of the documentary ‘The battle for the Battle of Britain’ which is narrated by Michael Caine and was shown just once on national television just days before the film premiered. A copy of this is in the posession of Mr. Robert Rudhall who I believe has already offered this material to you to form part of an extras package. As a measure of UK ininterest in this film, Mr. Rudhall has also authored two books about the film, both of which have sold extremely well.

Finally, many of the veterans of the Battle of Britain, are now in the twilight of their years. I believe it would make a fitting tribute to their courage and sacrifice to release this film on DVD as a matter of urgency. After all, without their efforts, there would have been no story to film…

RE: What Music Are You Listening To Now?

Val Doonican, Doris Day, Frank Ifield, If I need something with a bit more energy I put a Shakin’ Stevens LP on the gramophone……

Seriously, I listen to a lot of classical stuff at the moment, nothing too heavy though. Also into music that tells a story, so I like some Irish folk and am currently listening to the Bomber’s Moon CD by Mike Harding, the Rochdale Cowboy. I’m afraid I just don’t get this modern stuff or metal for that matter. To me they are just variations on a theme, and no-one does that better than Paganini.

Geedee, seeing as you’re into country, what do you think of Garth Brooks? ‘Standing Outside the Fire’, ‘The River’, ‘We Shall Be Free’ and ‘The Dance’ are all superb tracks. ‘Standing Outside the Fire’ and ‘The Dance’ hold special significance for me.

You all really ought to try Val Doonican you know, his album with the free knitting pattern really was ground breaking….

They died as a result of what is called an extinction level event. The world now is a very different place to the one that existed in prehistoric times. Leave them be. If it does ever become possible to reproduce such a creature using DNA, wouldn’t it be just another form of cloning?

Now, here’s where I probably get it totally wrong, but, is it a Provost? I’ve just been struck with the commonality of shape between this aircraft and the Jet Provost, wings, tail, in fact much of the aircraft, barring of course, the lump stuck on the front!
