Thanks to all who have helped with the research, I had no idea that so many late 40’s/early 50’s jets were still flying around the world. The P-59 project sounds fantastic and is a complete surprise.

A Jet “flying legends” airshow would be quite something with some of these.

Patronising, you think we are patronising. We bothered to take time to answer your question why the hell should we bother for people such as yourself. you would be surprised to know how many people on this forum take offence to what you have said so i believe an apology is in order here.
FACT- Your Insults are unwanted here. You should feel pleased that we all are bothered to look for you. dont go on at us if you ‘knew’ the answer to the question dont ask, simple really. Bruce always takes his time to answer a question and has a wealth of knowledge so if you had bothered to read his posts you would of understood, but i take it you didnt.
My rant is over but i suggest you think before you replying to me.

    Thanks fellas

This the first time I’ve posted to these forums; I feel most unwelcome and I certainly hadn’t expected to be patronised. Anyway, thanks for the “thoughtful and constructive contribution(s)”.

I only wanted some FACTS and suppositions are not FACT. It wouldn’t bother me a jot if the former John Travolta F3 was airworthy, but if someone could say it was currently flying, instead of it might be flying or I can’t see a reason why it wouldn’t be flying or it could fly if we did x,y & z or whatever, then at least I would have a FACTUAL answer.

Manonthefence, thank you for understanding the question!

It all seems to be getting very personal, so I will wish you all the best and go elsewhere.

    Good luck to you all.

    You still haven’t answered.

Hopefully your rant and “suppositon” will be your last contibution to this, I had asked a genuine question and had hoped for a mature response; others have done this.

Air Classics reported it as being returned to airworthiness in 2002 with the above company, so it is reasonable to assume it remains airworthy.

This doesn’t actually say that the F3 is AIRWORTHY and currently ACTIVE.

The F86 last flew on Sunday (19th June 2005), three times in fact! When did Vampire F3 N6878D last fly?

Thanks Harold, but perhaps I should have asked about aircraft “currently flying”.

So, it still looks like the F86 then!

Martin-Baker still employ two Meteors for ejection trials, WA638 and WL419. The former of these is the oldest aircraft still on the military register. I think WA638 was built in 1949, and WL419 is younger, so these might be the oldest trainers.

Is the Vampire F3 still AIRWORHTY?
