I’m pretty sure it was HitchHiker’s too, well, one of the books anyhow. Remember there was this monster or creature which wouldn’t be able to see you if you covered your head with a towel?

How good a missile is the Super 530? What is it comparable to?

Less than 15 years to be ready, at least according to Sukhoi officials at MAKS 2003, they put it at < 6 years behind the F-22’s IOC.

Well, since not enough specs are out yet, one can’t make a comparison. But from what we know, it’s believed to have a range of 150km+, track 15 targets, attack 4-6.

Yes, but UAVs are so cheap, and it wouldn’t be a very cost-effective weapon. Heck, you could take out a ship’s radar with it, and probably the ship itself if used instead as an ASM.

OK, then my money’s on the Python 5. It’s supposed to have a wider field of view than the seekers used on the ASRAAM, IRIS-T or AIM-9X, according to Rafael, and is most definitely a BVR missile.

What about the R-27 variants- are those dual seeker missiles or what?

It has a great model of the missile, which looks more like an ASM than an AAM. Holy mother of jeebus. You can count on the Russkies to develop these monsters.

I do, but I won’t be able to post the full text yet. I’m feeling kind of lazy right now.:D

Yah, I think it is basically rumor milling at the moment.

Oh, and in other news according to Flight International Jan. 6-12 issue, the Gorshkov deal is supposed to be signed by the end of this month. Where have we heard that before…..?

Now, did you purposely pick that neighborhood because of its aviation background, or was it purely coincidental?:)

Why doesn’t the pilot just wear a towel over his head a la Hitchhiker’s Guide? If you can’t see them, they can’t see you!
